Not that this is the best school ever (I'm sure it's not), BUT, schools like this are rare in the LA area. These are mostly bright, well-mannered kids from loving families who are engaged and friendly. My child is in K and I get weekly emails from her teacher. The teacher is responsive, open, and totally accessible. It's a sweet, safe school, just what elementary school should be. The K is a mixture of fun (singing, art, experiments) and traditional learning (learning to read, computer class, building math concepts). Kindergarteners have a shortened day so things do get rushed but my child's teacher does an amazing job incorporating the lessons all the while making it fun and interesting. It's a popular neighborhood and the school is growing fast, so these are big classrooms. 30 kids per room, though that's probably typical in a lot of schools these days. The K classrooms have volunteers so there are usually other adults in the room.
Roosevelt is blessed with an exceptional principal Dr. Meg, great teachers and wonderful parent involvement. We have two children attending and We feel very lucky to be part of such a great school.
We moved to Burbank for our daughter to attend this school as she entered Kindergarten. Now in 4th grade she is growing and thriving thanks to the parent and teacher involvement and the Principal's leadership. We couldn't have asked for better school. We are happy to be a part of the Roosevelt Community and our son will be starting Kindergarten there in the Fall 2014.
Roosevelt Elementary School is wonderful school with an amazing principal, great teachers and parents! The parents are such a great support system and I'm very happy to be a part of this community.
We joined Roosevelt this year with our kindergartener. We have had a great experience so far, and have been so thankful to be part of such a great community. The principal is very involved with the children and school, as well as the teachers we have met thus far. We love our kindergarten teacher, and we really feel lucky to be part of this school.
Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School is a wonderful school. It has a great staff and in my opinion the best PTA and Boosters group you could ever hope for. It really brings our neighborhood together. I have 2 boys that go there and am very grateful for the opportunity for my kids to go there.
Roosevelt is a great school. My son just graduated from 5th grade, and I have a third grader there. The teachers are all wonderful. They are so professional, caring, and go out of their way to help my son. They offer so many extra activities, have an amazing art program, and are always willing to listen to any parent concerns. I am so happy to have my son there!
This school is such a mess! The teachers, the leadership, and the staff we have encountered are all so unprofessional. It is quite disturbing that this continues to go on without any changes. The leaders of the school are so casual and uncaring. They don't act like they are running a school. I am thoroughly disgusted with this poor excuse for an educational facility.
Fresh from the Fall Festival where countless volunteers pulled off a huge fundraiser for the school...with hundreds in attendance...ready for more action! Many times one leader through PTA or Boosters will step up, but here they seem to invigorate, challenge and encourage other parents to use their talents to better the school. The student body wins!
Fantastic leadership and very dedicated teachers. The one and only drawback is an overcrowded district with not enough funding means classes are too large (30 to a single teacher in kindergarten is criminal). The teachers do the best with what they've got. We've been at Roosevelt the last 8 years and it remains fabulous in spite of the crowding.
We are new to this school this year and already feel like we're part of the Roosevelt family. My kids' teachers are dedicated with open communication. There is a lot of parent involvement here from parents and members of the community. We are so happy to have our children attending this school now and look forward to the years ahead.
We left this school for 1 year after moving away to another Burbank School, and we had to come back. The communication in this school is stellar. The parent involvement is amazing. We haven't had a bad teacher yet. My kids LOVE their teachers every year. My first year at this school I had a young child at home, so I couldn't volunteer or become too involved. I still was informed every week about what was going on. When we moved to the new school, I had NO idea what was going on in the school. I was still getting emails every week from Roosevelt so I knew more of what was going there than I did at my current school. We are happy to be back.
Let me just say I have never seen such love and dedication for a school anywhere. We have been at several schools while moving around. I have never witnessed anything like this school. The parent volunteers go above and beyond. The principal, Dr. Meg must have a clone because she is everywhere. She is at every meeting. I think she lives at the school. She is amazing. She is so approachable and down to earth. We are so lucky to have her. All the kids love Dr. Meg, including my own. She is fair and just in her discipline technique. With her leadership this school just blossoms. I wish the school had more grades so we can be here longer! Some of the best teachers are also here! Mr. Pike and his mantises are famous. We never want to leave!
I have a second grader and a son who is an alumni of Roosevelt. I have the unique perspective of having started at a different school in Burbank and transferring my son halfway through, because I wasn't thrilled with the leadership at the other school. Right away, I was truly impressed with the strong sense of community at Roosevelt. The teachers, the principal and the parents are all so dedicated; it truly feels like the way an idyllic public school should feel. There is a real commitment to learning in the broadest sense of the word. Yes, the academics are strong and the kids are more than prepared for middle school, but there is also a great emphasis on how other mediums such as music, visual and performing arts, etc. can be used to learn as well. As a result, Roosevelt kids are exposed to a variety of opportunities and experiences that can be difficult to find in today's schools. I feel so lucky and grateful to have my daughter at this school!
We have had children at Roosevelt for 8 years. The principal is outstanding, every teacher we've had has been dedicated and professional, and parents are very active and involved. We feel very lucky to be a part of the Roosevelt community.
Searched high and low for a school that met the needs of kids with different needs and personalities - this is the one! Very thankful for talented teachers and staff who challenge themselves and the students. In addition to the great curriculum, Roosevelt has a strong PTA & Boosters Committee. Also, Roosevelt has great PeaceBuilder Programs, Music Enrichment, a school garden, and various clubs including art, science, and language. The only downside is that while we are trying to recruit friends and family to the area, this school has driven home prices up in the area.
This is our 4th year at Roosevelt and the school gets better each year. We have been impressed with the principal, teachers and the enrichment programs. There is truly a level of caring and excellence that makes us very happy to be part of such a wonderful school.
Roosevelt Elementary is an amazing school! The principal Dr. Meg, teachers, parent involvement, students -- everyone works hard to make it the best school possible. My son is in 2nd grade now, and last year Dr Meg was awarded a grant to add Music/Arts Enrichment program to each grade. Each grade was a different arts area -- and the 1st graders were given a Violin lesson once a week and performed for the parents at the end of the year. I am proud to be part of the Roosevelt team, and we look forward to this year and many more in the school.
What makes this school really food are the parents who are involved and the teachers who truly care for their students even outside of school.
Roosevelt raises the bar for public schools nationwide. Caring, smart principal and teachers, parents and especially great kids! We checked around at area charter, magnet and private schools. Nothing compared to what we have at Roosevelt. Now with more money coming into the school from Measure S -- it will continue to improve in every way.
