Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My children did not do very well at this school.Good teachers are hit or miss We had several who were just miserable and acted liked they hated kids and teaching. 5th grade teacher Mrs Hunt is wonderful..Principal was not supportive to my child with special needs and played favorite with certain children. My child was accused wrongly of doing something and she immediately determined my child was guilty when not so. She is very good at appearing politically correct and manages to twist the conversation the way she wants. My children did not learn very much at this school but thankfully reversed this in middle school where they were both honor students by 8th grade. This school needs some new leadership principal needs to retire.

Excellent school and fabulous school system. My child started this year as a new student and was warmly welcomed. She got a great teacher, Mrs. Mizrahi, and we are thrilled with the instruction, curriculum and the warm and caring attitude. I love that the parents are really hands on and welcome in the classroom and at other activities. I love the before school violin program and the numerous after school activities.

PLEASE implement Uniforms. It will not only help with Los Angele's Bullying problems by erasing the socio-economic factor, It will attract parents to move their children from Private school, It will take an emphasis off of negative discussions and precious time that would have been better spent learning! There are only positives when it comes to Uniforms, helps parents avoid arguments about what kids are wearing and want to buy because so & so has it. As well, it puts all kids on a even playing field! It also looks the part that Las Virgenes represents. Im sure enrollment will go up with Uniforms

PHONOMENAL SCHOOL! This is an update to an earlier review, we were thrilled to say the least coming to Lupin from a private school last year. The Teachers were warm, caring and the principal, Mrs. Grady is SO Hands On! This Year, I must say that THIS YEAR, It's gotten even better than Last Year which I rated 5 stars then! Mrs. Verney Thomas and Mrs. Chodor are out of this world and I truly mean it! These are the types of teachers a parent can only wish their child would be lucky enough to get and they REALLY DO EXIST! BRAVO Mrs. VERNEY! BRAVO Mrs. CHODOR! BRAVO Mrs. GRADY! Thank you for your warmth, caring and truly inspirational ways! MP's mom

The school is great! The teachers are warm and friendly and really care about your child's success in school. The enrichment programs are top notch! I love picking out classes that they can take straight after school right on site! I love that Camp Calabasas (the onsite child care facility) also gets a discount at the onsite martial arts club and the martial arts instructor gathers the members from camp Calabasas and walks them over to the club at 6PM and I just come at 7PM to get them. The school has nice large grassy areas for play, climbers, swings and paved areas too. The parents involvement level is very very high. The only thing I think it needs is a large gymnasium and indoor eating area.

Caring Faculty! My son started here as a new student this year and we couldn't be more pleased! The level of parent/teacher communication parallels that of a private school and my son is always HAPPY! Makes a huge difference! Mrs. Treadaway is a phonomenal teacher! The Principal Mrs. Grady is OUTSTANDING as well. I am impressed beyond belief at the Public System Las Virgines has to offer! Lupin Hill is a Role Model for any school to follow!

My son joined Lupin Hills for 5th grade... new town, new school, and we weren't sure what to expect. Wow - we were so surprised by the warm, generous welcome we received by the principal, teacher, and most of all - his classmates. The high standard of teaching and student engagement is evident. The balance that his teacher has to make to provide for so many students is impressive. I have also been so impressed and grateful for the Library and the Librarian for the enthusiastic way they have captured my son's heart and his love of reading.

Ms. Grady has been a light to our school. She truly cares about the kids and the school and is not afraid to make the tough calls. I personally feel much safer knowing that she is running the school now. She is a true leader and educator. Thank-you for what you do Ms. Grady and I hope you stay for a long time.

Great school with caring teachers, supportive administration, and 'extras.' The major 'extra,' setting this school apart from all others, is the music teacher (violin classes, musicals, etc.) A real plus, gien public school budget constraints.

My kids have all been at Lupin and from the minute we walked in we were impessed with the spirit of community in such a big school. Besides getting a solid education, my kids have come away with great memories. We love the carnival and the musicals the kids put on. The staff is great too, they really care about the kids.

Grady has single handedly ruined this school. Teachers are seem down and the campus itself looks horrible. Planters with no plants. The new principal hides in her office and never, ever attends PFC functions, musical performances, or anything of the like. One would not know if Grady was on site or on vacation, she is always vacant. It's a shame, this was a special place. I hope the staff can overcome the huge hole dug by the new lack of administration. Time to call it quits Grady.

I hate it. I am seriously concerned about safety. Why are we being reactive rather than proactive when it comes to small children?

The kids are overworked, overwhelmed and with absolutely no creative outlet at Lupin Hill Elementary. The classes are over-crowded, therefore children receive virtually no personal attention and there is little consideration for individual needs. After six years experience (K-5), I would not recommend this school for anything beyond Kindergarten.

There is zero tolerance for bullies. An accredited anti-bully program is in place and successful. Your wonderful president and governor are the two responsible for high stakes testing, standards based, teach to the test curriculum. But creativity and logical thinking are things that should be taught and instilled at home. Good lunches are made at home using whole grains, fruits, vegetables, non-hydrogenated oils, and 100% organic ingredients. School lunches are no better than fast food. Current research states: 'As to what are the most important influences on self-esteem, the simple answer is: parents.' Moral is high among teachers, staff, and students. Name one school with good traffic.

Lot's of bully behavior both from administration as well as students. Kids pushed to the brink of ruin without any free time to think outside the box or be creative. Bad lunches. Children have low, low self esteem. There is a over all lack of moral from the top! Heavy car traffic.

Lupin Hill is wonderful. The teachers are all highly qualified and caring. The administrators are great leaders and provide consistency for the entire school. They hold themselves and others to a high standard of achievement. The community is incredibly supportive and there are many parents who contribute their time to assist teachers and enable them to use their professional knowledge to its fullest. The PFC is committed to supporting the music, art, computers and other extracurriculars that would otherwise be lost due to lack of state funding.

My two children spent two years at Lupin Hill. They experienced poor teachers who used only whole group instructional methods, who could not individualize work, even in the lower elementary classes limited to 20 kids. Class sizes were 30-35 for the fourth and fifth grades. The curriculum was textbook-based and test driven. Although they claimed to have a GATE program, it consisted of one class offered as an afterthought after school for 8 weeks. Although science in the 4th and 5th grades is taught by district science specialists, it consists of 'having us read about experiments and then fill out worksheets about them,' as my daughter described it. There was no environmental education, except for a two-week program at the end of 5th grade for which the parents had to pay. The parents also have to raise money for music and art instruction or there isn't any.
