Calmont School has done wonders for our son. With its small class sizes, respect for the individual child and focus on peaceful conflict resolution, he has developed a healthy self-confidence and is doing very well academically. The school is located in an amazing location with proximity to nature and plenty of opportunities for outside play. It has a great environmental sciences program that matches its location, and overall the teachers do a great job in adapting the curriculum to individual needs. So far I have had no complaints from my son, he is always happy to go to school.

We recently moved to California from England and searched all of LA county for the best school. This is it!! Calmont School promotes self-reliance, compassion and fosters a sense of teamwork, the intellectual freedom to be creative, confident, curious. The kids here have an independence of mind and spirit. The small class sizes allow the teachers to achieve the academic success we had hoped for. The environmental science program is amazing. The children go hiking every Friday to learn about their surroundings. Our new Head of School, Ruth Glass is dedicated to creating an astounding academic curriculum second to none. And Coach Darren has a brilliant sports program where my eight-year-old daughter plays football. My kids are thriving. We love it.

Because of Calmont's small class size and excellent teachers, my child has received the individualized attention that every student deserves but often doesn't find at other schools. Calmont offers a warm, nurturing, accepting environment in a beautiful, natural setting that is unparalleled among public or private schools. The education is hands-on and exciting, and my daughter is thriving!

In my opinoin, everyone here at Calmont, i.e., The Calmont Community -- students, teachers, parents, and administrators -- is galvanized by one goal: Every single student will go forward with an educated sense of self. To strive toward the highest levels of their respective self esteems that will allow our children to make thoughtout choices, and recover from their respective mistakes with a healthy sense of growth and new found knowledge. I have seen a desire to learn, to give back and help others achieve their respective goals on the Calmont Campus like nowhere else...and this is in reference to how the students learn to behave. To make this happen, teachers, students, and parents commit themselves to an exceptionally personalized educational program with ideal student/teacher ratios that allow for unwavering standards for academic work and accountability. If they have to trade sleep, exercise, and family time to achieve this, that's a sacrifice I have witnessed the teachers, administrators and parents at Calmont are willing to make. We did not join this school community simply for learning. We could have gotten that from any number of schools in various price ranges. We committed to Calmont because the people here realize we have a problem with the education system, and at Calmont they/we are doing something to change it. With my warmest regards, Brad Wear Father of George Wear (7th Grader '09-10)

After visiting every private school from Santa Monica to Chatsworth, Calmont is the best school there is, period. I feel so grateful that we get to go there.

We have now been at Calmont for one full year. We were hesitant to go the private route, as both my husband and I went to public schools and public universities. However, you make educational decisions based on the needs of the individual child. Our son was not having his needs met in the public system. He is extremely bright, and was underserved for his academic high functioning level, and more importantly, his social skills were sorely wanting. Calmont absolutely changed his life. He has more friends now than he has ever had before. Calmont is a place where the individual is celebrated! He is thriving academically as he is finally being challenged! His need to ask questions and intellectually explore to a deeper level is not frowned upon as disruptive. We have found a place where he feels accepted for who he is. What greater gift can we give him!

Small classes, wonderful teachers, and a rustic campus that is a vision of childhood as I wish I had lived it myself. (The first thing you see when you pull up at school is an authentic, full-sized teepee!) Calmont is the antidote to impersonal, overcrowded L.A. schools, whether public or private.

My son has gone to Calmont for 3 years and loves the school. We have been very happy with what he has learned and experiences at Calmont. The school is small enough that all the children know each other and there is a strong sense of community. We are happy that is has moved out of Topanga to it's own property now so it can grow to be the school it is capable of being. The school focuses on the whole child and has provided an excellent education, strong in environmental science. He also does a lot of extra curriculart sports activities which are led by 2 fabulous coaches. When visiting the school one can see how much the teachers are devoted to the kids and to the school itself. We hop to stay there through middle school.

A really wonderful school. Excellent academics. Calmont is set on about 20 acres and they really make the most of the space. The kids, staff and parents have formed a wonderful community. My children can't wait to get to school every day.

I am very happy with Calmont. My child is happy and independent. She is a gifted student and is challenged in her work. She loves the coach and has become a confident player at team sports. Calmont has been a blessing to our family.

Calmont School has provided an amazing learning opportunity for my daughter. It is truly a personalized education. Public school was stifling and the kids were not encouraged to excel or think outside the box. At Calmont, she's encouraged to soar and think for herself. The staff knows all of the students and no one gets 'lost' either socially or academically. No matter the academic level, the kids are challenged and develop a sense of self confidence. Opportunities for parental involvement are many and varied. The school is moving to Calabasas in Sept 2008, to Cottontail Ranch and will finally own the property. There are specialists in Science, Spanish, PE, Music, Library and Computers. Lessons are taught across the curriculum. There is an emphasis on Social Studies, a subject often overlooked in public schools. The teachers are innovative and truly love to teach. Great school.

Calmont is a wonderful school with a very strong leader. If you want sound academics in a beautiful setting then this is the place for you. The teachers genuinely like the kids. I particularly like the parents. We manage to avoid the money focussed crowd that is so common around here. Don't be put off by the low key surroundings.

Calmont is the most charming school I've ever seen. I believe my son received the social and emotional support that is sometimes lacking in the early years at other private schools in the area. Class size was always < 20. Academics are fine. Homeroom teachers were great. However, for the money, the curriculum is severly lacking-- basically no music, marginal Spanish and PE. Environmental science w/ weekly hikes is a plus. Overall, I would say Calmont was a good alternative to our local Elementary school, but if they want to compete with the other schools in that price range, they need to add a bit more to their program. My son will not continue into Middle school for this reason. Also-Unfortunately, Calmont School will almost certainly be leaving Topanga Canyon after the '07-'08 school year.

Calmont is a phenomenal choice for a family seeking a private school experience that incorporates high academic standards and results, awesome Admin and teachers, parental support and interest, character and relationship building, very small class room size, recognition and response to individual needs and circumstances and an environmental setting on 20 isolated, pristine acres. We more than highly reccommend Calmont after our two sons graduated and went on to a top rated high school...we all miss Calmont and will fondly remember and support it going forward.

Our two children went to Valmont from Pre-K through 8th grade and loved it. The class sizes are very reasonable and the personal attention they received was unparalleled. The environment is also one of the most beautiful and natural to be found anywhere, with lush greenery, its own creek, and horses right next door. The curriculum is both well developed and interesting and we especially liked that the children are encouraged to become individuals by developing their unique sense of style and creativity through various projects and performances done throughout the school year.

Academically challenging in an expansive, casual, and beautiful setting, Calmont was an excellent middle school for our son. He had been getting lost in the large classrooms of our public elementary school and we hoped he d benefit from the smaller class size and the teaching staff s individual attention at Calmont. Calmont exceeded our expectations. He arrived in 6th grade an average student and graduated 8th with straight As! He improved especially in the core subjects; reading, writing, math & science and was inspired by the outside environmental studies. Don t let the school s casual setting fool you. Academics are quite rigorous. The head-of-school and teachers are talented and create a challenging program while being open and very responsive. Our son has gone on to one of the best private high schools in LA where the teachers have found him very well prepared.
