This alternative homeschool program option for grades K-6 was fantastic while it lasted. But due to supposed budget cuts, the program was eliminated for these grades for the 2011-2012 school year. Carlsbad Unified School District needed another scapegoat so they chose a high performing program which was costing them less money to run and cut it as a budget item to make their balanced budget proposal look better. Without the K-6 test scores factored in, expect this school on the whole to have its rating decline. Now these students, who are Carlsbad residents, will take their high test scores outside of the district.

This is a most wonderful school. Katy Herritage (my teacher), as well as the other teachers, provide inspiration and encouragement. They treat me as an individual, respect my opinions and take interest in my personal pursuits. Also, the flexible schedule of independent study allows for me to participate in community events, volunteer, and learn at my own pace, place, and time. I have been able to move ahead with writing a novel which I hope to have published before I leave for college. A fellow student, who is also a writer, and I started our own writers group, that meets once a month. There are also several classes that meet once or twice a week (I am presently in the Chemistry Lab). Indubitably, this exquisite one-of-a-kind school is a great educational opportunity. -A very happy student.
