As a charter school I expected more. The school has now a grip of inappropriate students, who simply take the school for granit. Strangly teachers cannot control the students behavior and sometimes even get to angry while showing the teens of the school that they are easily angered. Besides the students, the schools went on a downfall in quality and school maintenance. Recently I have heard that the school will sadly re-locate to another school (that will not be named) that has not had much of a scholar ready environment. This school was not originally like this, I have heard students past experiences about the schools quality in developing young minds. Now I hear that the school is a depressing environment.

Our eldest daughter has graduated with honors. She has a full scholoraship to an out of state college thanks to the educators at the school and our family supporting the school and the goals for her future. Yes it was hard work but hard works pays off. I am proud to have her sister go there next year.

Imho no public school in 310 can touch this place for academics or organization. High standards and extremely high-tech: Teacher whiteboard notes are posted to the school website nightly, homework updates are emailed daily to students and parents. There's a culture of learning and 'new-school' ambition you can feel right away visiting... Students seem bright and happy and intellectually curious, and from the list on display at parent night a huge portion (nearly half I'd estimate) are on the honor roll. This is the kind of school you should be shouting about from rooftops. Our daughter is thrilled with the place, with the teachers most of all. Some are brilliant. One downside: It's in a shopping mall with not a *single* window to the outside

After 7yrs of teaching, I'm very happy with the administrative, parent, and Board support. Most parents are involved, open to receive calls on the academic growth/struggles and social behavior of their children. As for for being unorganized or filled with uncontrollable students; there is no graffiti, no gang presence, and inappropriate behavior is referred back to the parents where it belongs. Most parents have responded positively to that call, unfortunately some still look at public schools as a place to dump their children. We are not that place and we work hard to offer each child an education. Fortunately for the disgruntled parent who posted below, we operate a public school and he/she has the choice to find a school that better fits their child's needs, Academically, we have raised the reading level from 43% proficient and advanced to 52% and will not settle there.

This school is in its first year of implementation in an economic and social climate where failure is beyond probable; yet, the school itself is succeeding. The small number of total students gives more one on one time and we have seen a profound change in many students because of it. Yes, there are aspects to improve upon with anything but for the first year, NMSS has been a success. And in response to the 'Uncontrollable students', those are our children. I don't think I want anyone 'controlling them', they are supposed to be educating them and my experience is that students who genuinely seek a better academic future, receive it at NMSS. The opportunities during and after-school are boundless and both the core-day and after-school staff haven taken a genuine interest in my child and other children like her. I'm very pleased.

Un-organized, Uncontrollable students, after school programs are not defined. Booster Club is very unorganized. No consequences to the negative actions of studens. Teachers are not aggresive enough witht he teaching and controlling the classroom. Not pleased at all. The corriculum on the otherhand is great. Need better leaders to enforced what they have been given. The students are not taking advantgae of the opportunity.

About the tests


In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
