I am an alumnus of St. Philomena and currently have a sibling attending the school. I believe that my sibling is getting the same high-quality education I had previously. The new principal provides outstanding leadership and a desire to address the needs of the parents and students. The teachers are excellent in allowing, yet challenging, the students to excel in the classroom. The teachers really care about the well-being of their students. The school is also able to provide a strong Catholic foundation for its students through weekly school masses and Eucharistic adorations. The sports and musical extracurricular activities give students a good basis for physical education and musical appreciation. The idea of family involvement is not farfetched because parents are always willing to help at many school activities. The numerous upgrades in the classrooms, library, computer lab and environment will positively impact the student's learning atmosphere.

My oldest child went to this school a few years ago and back then, I had some inquiry which was addressed but to no avail. Some doubts and concerns were also brought up by other parents but it was like an unwritten rule that if you can't beat them -- you join them. We moved, thus my kids went to a different private catholic school and from day 1, we knew we were getting what we hoped for our kids. No pressure, no 'monetary' committment -- pure high quality education.

All my 4 kids attended st. philomena and the school treated them very well. Honored when needed to be honored, awarded when needed to be awarded and punished when needed to be punished. Although I didnt see eye to eye with a few teachers, I do recall the teachers not giving up on any of my kids. My kids excelled and continue to private high schools.... All 4 agree, St. Philomena was a great education, considering how other students were behind in h.s. of other public schools. In the 90's when computers started making there way into more homes and the internet was on the rise, St. Philomena began a computer class and my remaining two kids that were still in this school, well, they loved computers. If I had to rate St. Philomena on a scale of one to ten, I would definately rate this school a nine point five.

Being part of the school as a student, teacher and parent has given me new appreciation for what SPS has to offer. There is a great sense of family within the school. As a parent of a 1st grader, I looked for a school where my children could associate with other children with supportive families. This is a great school with caring parents. It's a place where you know your child is learning the value of friendship, responsibility and hard work. The Carmelite sisters are great! They really evoke a spirit of dedication with their prescence in the school.

Their principal is basically the heart of the problem--she continues to destroy an already weak school. In addition to the school being weak overall, it has extremely poor math, and science programs.
