I have sent all of my children to Caruthers Elementary for most of their elementary school years, with the exception of one year. They have all done well in all academic areas. All of my children are proficient and/or advanced. Last year they went to another school that was a distinguished, high performing school. My children still did well in all academic areas, however they missed a very important element. They missed the element of genuine, caring relationships. Caruthers Elementary has highly qualified teachers that often go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of their students. The standards are the same across Califonia, and so is the state adopted material/curriculum. Caruthers offers many extracurricular activities including: music K-8, sports, fair art, camp, and this year some students will be experiencing pioneer life on The Wagon Trail. Caruthers has some very dedicated parents, and I hope parent involvemt wil increase.

I have had two children attend this school and have had nothing but negative experiences. My daughter was bullied and the administration treated it like it was no big deal. They place more emphasis on the needs of the teachers rather the students and academics take a back seat to the development of a new sports program.

I think Caruthers is a great school - unfortunately, budget cuts have left us without some extra-curricular programs such as sports, etc. What CES needs the most are programs for advanced students. Without attention, these kids will end up getting left behind, especially when it comes to testing and competing against other school districts. We also need more parents involved; most PFC meetings draw less than 10 parents.
