A true community school that values not just test scores but also well-rounded education. The parents support the teachers and the teachers are top notch! We have been very pleased with the various programs and community-building events that this school offers.
The parents really make the school! Without the high degree of parent involvment and at home teaching, the overall lack of experience of the staff would show. Given that many of them are fairly new to teaching, the teachers do have a lot of energy and enthusiasm. They really care about their students, but do make a fair degree of 'newbie' mistakes. To be fair, the hiring practices of the district resulted in the overal newness of the teaching staff. The facilities are nice, especially after the remodel. The principal is present and caring to the students, but a little reserved towards the parents. My children love it there and that' counts for a lot!
Chabot's teachers are wonderful. They have a lovely grass area, and 2 playgrounds for the students to play in. Compared to other schools, like Castro Valley Elementary, who have one playground, and a grass area that is off limits (It can only be used for PE). The teachers interact with the students, and actually make school fun for them. On halloween they usually have a little carnival that goes on, which the students' parents and teachers help out to raise money for the school. It is a wonderful school all around.
Chabot Elementary School has dedicated and experienced staff as well as extremely involved parents whose purpose is to support teachers and to raise funds for the school's exclusive use that the district cannot provide. This combination resulted in an ethusiastic student body eager to go to school. My children love the school and look forward to attending class each day! Although preparing students to take statewide tests is taking priority over the curriculum in countless schools, the teachers at Chabot know better and offer students a full-bodied curriculum. Parking may be difficult due to limited space and the grass playground area is not flat, but those are minor compared to what the school offers.
Parents, teachers, children, and the community all work together like one big family. Every teacher on campus is wonderful.
