Not so Good and needs a lot of improvements in all areas of the school, don't expect a whole lot of anything except mediocrity.

My son is in the two way immersion program. He only spoke english and within one year his spanish is better than my three years of hs/college spanish. I am very pleased with the level of learning going on in this particular proram.

Our daughter is entering the third grade this school year. We are very pleased with the quality of education she has experienced thus far at Castroville Elementary School. She is enrolled in the Two-Way Immersion program and is doing very well in English (her first language) and Spanish (her second language). We highly recommend the Two-Way Immersion program and the overall school environment is very nurturing. The teachers are great!

I am the parent of two children at Castroville Elementary. One of my children was previously enrolled in a bi-lingual program, and is now in a english only class. Although this program does teach them a second language at a early age, I found it also sets them back in their native language.

My child is now graduating from high school but previously attended Castroville Elementary School. They do have a few very gifted teachers (yes, Mr. Karrer, that would be you) but I do not feel that there is enough emphasis placed on the English speaking childrens' classes. I do realize that there is a great number of children that speak Spanish as a first language but that leaves the others out in the cold as they catch up. The one thing that surprised my husband and myself was the first Christmas show that we attended at the school. Now that I have said that I also must share this fact. I am the mother of a 'special education child' and Castroville Elementary School was the best thing that could have ever happened to him. Because of the individualized classes he received from Mrs. Webber, he has now been accepted to a four year private college. He will start in the Fall. That would never have been possible without their Special Ed classes. He was reading at a low first level at the start of the fourth grade when we moved to Castroville and by the time he finished 5th grade he was reading at a 6th grade level! It was like a miracle! He had gone to private tutors for the 3 years prior to attendance at this school but nothing worked until he enrolled there. Hats off.
