My child only attended this school for a year. Hoever, I feel that one year gives me an opportunity to asses this school objectively. The children are friendly, warm and inclusive. The curriculum is excellent, parent participation marvelous. However, I have never experienced such a lack of professionalism and such poor standards concerning children with special needs. If this is your case, do not send your child to this school.

If it isn't obvious, Fort Ross School is very small. Sometimes that is a good thing; sometimes it is not. Presently (2005), the teaching staff is incredible, but 2/3 of the teachers will retire soon. The care and attention in all facets of the students education is very high. It is not a traditional school with subjects and lockers; more emphasis is placed on individual achievement. The school greatly encourages parental involvement and is many ways dependent upon it. Music, art and sports is fine, but there is no extracurricular activities (presently a GATE program 2 days after school is in its infancy). This is an old-time rural school. If you want 'glitz' look somewhere else. If you want teachers and staff who care, check it out.
