Wittmann is a very good school. To get the most out of Wittmann (or any school for that matter) I believe parents have to do their part to prepare their child. Whether it is for kindergarten or the 6th grade. Don't let children watch a lot of TV. Sesame Street is not learning. Television captures the imagination but a good book at once stimulates and frees the mind. Read aloud to them even as they grow older. Wittmann will give my child a good educational foundation as long as I do my part.
The principal is very personable, but I went to him with complaints about a teacher, and notjing was done. Ineffective or afraid of the teacher's union...I don't know which. I know which Kinder teacher others have commented on, and I wholeheartedly agree on their assessment. My child had her last year, and it was the same thing. Looking to transfer out, and i wouldn't recommend this school to anyone with an incoming Kinder student.
Probably my expectations were too high. When my child started Kindergarten this year, he was looking forward to school. He had been in preschool for 2 years and enjoyed that very much. He felt that the Kindergarten teacher had favorites (because she only picked a couple of girls to be the helpers in class). The teacher does not seem very happy. I think she only smiled a few times this year at the children. She seems very uncomfortable speaking to the children and to the parents. I would have thought that the teacher would know more about how young children need praise and reassurance when they are doing a good job. I think she probably was a wonderful teacher at one time. She should teach 5th or 6th grade.
Wittmann welcomed us with open arms. I can t say enough about the wonderful staff. They have a dynamic Administrative Assistant duo who juggles taking care of ours kids, assisting the principal & seeing to our needs as well. They have the most kind & generous teachers in the district. They put so much extra time & effort into each child like they were their own. There is also an intervention program to keep our kids from falling through the cracks. The principal s compassion & enthusiasm ignites the children s passion for learning. They have an outstanding PTA & Foundation that are continually raising money for our kids. They pay for our rotation program & are purchasing E.L.M.O. s for the classrooms not to mention they help fund field trips, the purchase of playground equipment & many other things. They re open to ideas & encourage parent involvement. Gonsalves is my son s home school. Wittmann is our school of choice & for great reason. They are more than a school; they are family. We are WITTMANN!
I am very impressed with the Principal, but I am wondering about the fact that they keep asking for money. When fund raisers are suggested and info given nothing is done. Other schools in this district aren't asking for money to keep computer and other programs. People want tangible things for their money in today's economy. This school has always been known as 1 of the best in ABC, we need to do better to keep it that way. I have also been upset at 2 teachers out front screaming to the top of their lungs at students that are really not doing anything dangerous or damaging.
Wittmann is an excellent school! I am more than impressed with the entire school community. I am confident that my children are receiving the very best possible education. The teachers genuinely care about the success and well-being of all children attending.
As a former student here, I found it important enough to move back into the district specifically for the reason of making sure my son attends Wittmann. I have tremendous trust in the staff and as a parent volunteer, I see first hand the dedication towards creating and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to motivated learning.
i was originally worried that the principal, who i thought was spectacular, had been reassigned but Mr. Walker has more than put my fears to rest. He is enthusiastic and the children love him. the teachers are top notch and take an interest in their charges and it shows.
This school is wonderful. I have 2nd grader and a 6th grader and the teachers, staff, and administation are all dedicated to the intellecutal and social growth and the character building of our children. I am in awe of the parent participation. There is a new principal and he has more than added to the family atmosphere at this school. While it is a diverse population, there is no division amongst the children or the parents. My child is well-prepared for middle school although I'm going to miss the family environment that is Wittmann. WE ARE WITTMANN!
Great school, caring teachers. Very involved pta. Academic programs are wondering. Smaller school but top notch.
