My son is a ninth grader and is doing well. He is involved and challenged academically. I must say as an educator myself, that you cannot compare Chatsworth to Granada or El Camino charter schools. They can pick and choose who they want to accept or in the case of students who live in the area, kick students out for little reason. Birmingham Charter is loosing their charter status for just those reasons. Chatsworth is doing fine!

Chatsworth High School isn't as bad as it seems. It is just like any other public school when it comes to its problems. The school tries caring about all of its students and it has given students so many ways of getting involved and getting ahead in their academics. The honors and AP classes are extremely challenging and the teachers who teach them are great. They really do prepare you for all the exams at the end of the year. If you walk into a classroom, you could immediately tell that all the teachers try giving their all in their teachings and it is up to the student if they want to learn or not. And their sports team and their band are also amazing as well. This school tries giving as much as possible, even with all the budget cuts that it has undergone.

Chatworth is in a complete downward spiral and needs a fundamental change in its approach to educating children. This change needs to start at the top. Conversion to a Charter School with a complete replacement of the administartion would be a good start. The administation appears to be severely lacking in competence or organization. A once proud school seems to have fallen into the lowest depths of LAUSD quality. The administration does not return phone calls and seems to be vindictive against the students of parents who dare to complain. Many of the classes seem to be out of control. Generally we associate such problem with the students, parents or even the teachers - but I think not. Its amazing that Granada can essentially draw from the same student/parent pool yet be so far out of Chatsworth's league. There are undoubtedly some poor unmotivated students and teachers but I think the problem starts right at the top and infiltrates the complete psyche of Chatworth, with predicable results. I would highly recommend that Chatworth be avoided until there is a profound change at the school. As for us - one year was one year too much.

The school is not necessarily bad its the parents that need to be more involved with the school, the teachers and activities. Parents need to be poactive-on top of their kids school work and support the teachers and sports and music programs. If the child is not doing their school work, learning their music for band , practicing as needed and respecting their teachers and coaches it is the fault of the parents!

Nice to see CHATSWORTH H.S. 2011 Scores have increased ! I want to see this school get a 7 out of 10 rating again. My son is now a senior and in his 3 + years at CHS he has NOT once complained about any teacher. In fact he has had good things to say about ALL his teachers. So like all schools students need to apply themselves and take advantage of all the help a school offers. After school tutoring etc. Plus Chatsworth rocks it when it comes to sports. Rated top Baseball !!

It is very disappointing to see CHS which was a 7 out of 10 last year now rated a 5. Chatsworth is a very fine school. My son just finished 11 th grade with a 4.0. I find the teachers to be caring and qualified. And this year, Chatsworth HIgh School Baseball program was rated in the nation the number ONE high school baseball program of the DECADE! The unfortunate thing for ALL public high schools is the cutting of the music, art and drama programs. Parents this school has a lot to offer even with the budget cuts.

I also have finished my first semester of 9th grade ,and all i have found this school to focus on is sports. The whole school smells like pot (especially the bathrooms). The teaching quality is not very good ,and the classrooms are dirty. As far as the homework (honors) the teachers focus on the quantity of the work they are giving and are not giving challenging work. The only class that is challenging is honors geometry and the only reason it is, is because she does not teach she only gives us a warm up to reflect on. If you want rigorous classes i suggest granada hills charter high school. As for me i am trying to transfer.

I have just finished my first semester of 9th grade at Chatsworth High School. I think that it the school really tries to make it a good place, but there are students that just can not be helped. Sometimes when you go into the restroom, you can smell the pot; but I am sure that occurs at almost every public high school. I am in all honors classes so most of my peers actually want to be there and learn. There are also many extra curricular activities (and we have an amazing band & baseball team). Chatsworth High gives you many opportunities to make friends and things. Then once you are in tenth grade you have to choose an academy to join. I do not really like this idea because not everybody knows which to choose (although I am sure that it is great for the people that know exactly what the want to do with their lifes). But all in all high school is what you make of it and Chatsworth can be a good school if you are willing to try to be a good student.

Principal Mr. Guy does nothing for this school - apparently he just sits back and doesn't get involved with the day to day events and lacks solid leadership. I hear that school lacks positive morale and teachers are burnt out and feel unsuppported. My son says that the teachers are unhappy and I clearly see the lack of academic rigor in his curriculum. I am considering sending my son to High Tech High (charter) which I'm hearing great things about. Most good teachers seem to have left in the last few years. Don't send your child here if you want a quality education.

I have had two children, one grandchild and two nieces graduate from Chatsworth High. It is a great school that has withstood the test of time. There are so many opportunities for kids to oursue their dreams and so many adults on campus ti help them.
