This school is mostly excellent. Very very stong leadership from the principal, very good caliber of student who is motivated, with good values. If there are any issues with problem kids, administration acts quickly and thoughtfully. The school has made a bold move to become technology immersed with each student having a laptop and becoming proficient through the internet, teachers using smart boards and this seems to be worknig well. Teachers are generally good and caring. Teachers have been responsive to our issues and some teachers have gone beyond the call of duty to help. The school helps kids stay organized with systems to manage their courseload. Involved caring parental community. The religious aspects of the school are reasonable and not overbearing and the community values that they espouse are commendable. The weaknesses are that there are many more multiple choice tests than essays, there are a fair share of weak teachers (20-25%), some of the homework seems like busy work. Also, the after school athletic programs were disappointing and the caliber of coaching just fair. Overall, a very good experience and one I would highly recommend.
Chaminade College Prep Middle School is the change our kids need for a better future, with dedicated teachers to improve our community.
This is a school for below average and a robot kid who will sit there, be slapped in the face, bullied and say nothing. If you bring the issues to the attention of the school's administration, then the student will be heavily punished. The school principal/administration is extremely green and inexperienced. They have no idea as to how to handle Middle School age students. The school councilors are present, just for gossip and pastime. Some kids get away with border line murder, due to favoritism. These are the ones who are given the chance to participate in everything the school has to offer. Others are purely discriminated against in every possible way. Below average and extremely rude teachers. Student/teacher ratio very high. Not worth the money you will spend on tuition. The adults treat the students very poorly. They are experts in crushing your child's spirit!
Chaminade Middle School was the best thing that ever happened to my son. By no means is he a straight A student but he is certainly better prepared for High School and ultimately college because of his 3 years here. Like any school, there are some great teachers and not so great teachers. But everyone of the teachers is accessible by email and have office hours. The curriculum is more than challenging - every student that goes through Chaminade is a full year ahead in English. The student body is great - confident, smart, well spoken. Great kids that you would want your kid around. The best part is the accountability and organization that is emphasized at Chaminade, I assure you, your child will walk out of there a organized and more responsible young adult. BTW, my child has friends from many faiths - not an issue here.
Good for average students, not good for the higher level kids. Many inexperienced teachers, ratio too high. Lack of supervision outside class entirely offsets discipline achieved inside class. Babyish group projects, loads of busywork keeps kids from being able to study! Excellent extra-curricular programs. Kind counselors.
You need to follow some other parents/students recommendations/experiences prior to sending your child there otherwise you might be shocked. It is a very strict college prep school and students will be very well prepared for college. The con is the religion classes are overwhemed and over superceeding the math classes. It is definitely not a school gifted math students.
Chaminade College Preparatory is an outstanding school that exceeds in academic excellence. However, it is not what it is made up to be. If you are not Catholic or a type of Christian, do not consider this school for your child. The religion classes are hard and the masses occur MORE often than the parents are told. Religion is a major part of Chaminade and therefore the school is extremely heavy duty religious. Also, the student to teacher ratio is considerably too high with approximately 35 students to 1 teacher. There are many projects and almost a 50 or more question test every other day. If your child is not ready to be challenged this is not the school for your family. If your child has never received any grade below an A, prepare to be shocked.
Chaminade is an excellent, excellent school. It teaches quality education and has a great diversity of students from all cultures and religions. There is so many good things to say about Chaminade.
Chaminade is not all it is supposed to be! The teachers are very disrespectful to the students, but show a very different face to the parents. Infractions are given for telling another student to be quiet so you don't get into trouble. Saturday detentions are given for failing someone else's mess. If you try to defend yourself, more punishment is doled out. Academically, the school tries to do a good job, but it falls short in many areas. Low test grades can be offset with preschool level collages and projects. It is easy to lower your grade (just leave your homework in your locker once or twice), but it is very difficult to raise it again. Many group assignments are given with no follow up or supervision. Usually, one student ends up doing the work while the rest of the kids play.
Bringing my kids to Chaminade Middle School was an EXCELLENT choice. That school has the best faculty and staff that is dedicated to help the students. They are such a welcoming group. They are strong academically and spiritually. Thank You!
