The school is top-notch, Consistently the best academics in the district. The classes are tough many teachers hold Phd in thier feild and most have more than a decade teaching experience So if your kid is not ready to work hard this is not the school for them. However if they can keep up with the work BVHS provides a great jumping off point to a successful college experience and success in life.

As a current freshman parent and BVHS alumnus, I can say the school has retained a high academic rating, however this is upheld by such a small portion of the population that it is actually irrelevant. I believe that the staff has become complacent and relies on this population to "carry" them through. An ordinary student that could become extraordinary with a little help and motivation is just pushed along. My child was absent due to illness for a week and I only recieved an email response from 2 out of 6 teachers. I have literally stood in the office for 10+ mins while office staff chatted, until I finally interrupted them. I have only seen the principal at assemblies, she didn't even show up to a local CABE, education assoc. conferance, for an award she was nominated for, she didn't win....there are drugs, sex, etc... in every high school, BVHS is no exception, but the students' sense of entitlement and total disrespect for each other and faculty is appalling, I've heard better language in an episode of Lock Up.

My daughter started as a Freshman and is now in her Sophomore year at BVH. I am very pleased w/ the academics & support by all teachers. They really strive to stay in communication w/ parents & provide many tutoring options. The teachers are always open to meeting with students during their break hours. I have even received personal calls from teachers giving feedback on my daughters performance. She struggled at Bonita Middle but now at the High she is a straight A student due to the all the help available & encouragement...she is not book smart but very determined & is very greatful for the time teachers have given her. One negative is that principal is not really involved or available and her apprearance to me is not professional or appropriate. The asst/vice principal is always around though.

BVHS is a public school with additional opportunities (IB, AP, Performing Arts, 6 language programs, etc.) As a public school, there are limitations with administration, teachers, and the students themselves. There is a strength in diversity among the students and a new more invigorated teaching staff.

I've been going here since half of my sophomore and now my junior year. I can say that BVH is not a school you want to go to. For the most part teachers don't care if you have trouble with the material, I've tried asking for help but only received a one minute quick help session. Their security is so damn low, you can jump the fence in and out during breaks and during class, you can just walk into a classroom and pull your friend out with questions. The staff/counselors were of no help and lack approachability/friendlyness. I'm currently attending the BVH learning center and let me just say that I've improved tremendously. Please don't send your kid here. They'll end up a druggie. BVH is overall not a good environment.

I am A freshman Currently in my second week, and while it may be premature, I would like to venture an opinion. Everything seems a bit rushed, and a bit impersonal, with very many students, and not much to do. To attend Assemblies you have a spirit Shirt, which you must buy. The ASB seems to be open a bity irregularly, and I have yet to see the principal. The Teachers are mostly fine, good people. to have a 'Spirit Shirt'

I graduated from BVHS last year. I remember how prestigious Bonita Vista used to be. We were once held very high and students were proud to be there. From my freshman year to my senior year I noticed a great change. As much as I appreciated the cultural diversity in the beginning towards the end of high school, after Ramon Leyba left everything became too relaxed. I loved my teachers and have great respect for them all. I noticed that students began to lose school spirit. Students lost respect for their teachers, too. But lastly, I saw a lack of motivation and discipline. Plus, the school overpopulated.
