To me, Hilltop is one of the best schools in Chula Vista. I absolutely love how most of the teachers actually CARE about your future and about how you're understanding the class. It has pretty good security, and there aren't that many fights as the other schools. i LOVE the FLAGS program, all the activities we have to connect with whatever language we are taking. I love my school<3

My son attended Hilltop High School. This school is rich in tradition. The school's talented students and teacher have won numerous prestigious awards for academics. The school has an internationally recognized Foreign Global Studies Program along with many other great opportunities for student learning. Our family supports Hilltop High School and the wonderful environment presented by the dedicated staff.

i go here. the academics are OK. most of our school is all crazy about sports. we dont have much school spirit. people always talk about how ghetto our school is. they're kind of right..

I am a former student who once dreamed of returning to my alma mater to teach. However, I have recently changed my opinion after having seen the staff overturn since I graduated. Some of the best teachers and staff at Hilltop left with or right after my class. However, the reason that Hilltop is a California Distinguished school is because it turns out students that perform well and who are prepared for college. I went straight to a UC after Hilltop and felt right at home.. It simply is a pity that Hilltop has lost so many excellent educators. There is an expression, 'Those who can't do, Teach.' And it's true because many educators are teaching by default, not by choice.. Hilltop can't keep their all-star staff, and they're replacing them with those who simply, 'can't do.'

Hilltop High has once again become a California Distinguished High School. This reflects the high calibur of teachers, staff and most importantly teachers. The one draw back of the school is the age of the school and facilities. We are in line to get a new building. Take time to get to know your teen's teacher and get involved with the programs. AVID is an excellent program to get your teen involved in. It will help them study smarter, and prepare them for entrance into college.

My child has gone to HHS for three years. Everyday she tells me how she enjoys attending HHS. She is learning alot form the wonderfull teachers he has. HHS offers a variety of courses that are both educational and enjoyable.

This school has some outstanding regular mainstream teachers who gladly accept and work with special needs students. There is a wonderful 'Best Buddies' Club that pairs special needs students with mainstream students for social events and companionship. An outstanding APE program that is part of a consortium of Sweetwater Union High School District Schools provides fabulous opportunities for softball and basketball tournaments for special needs students.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
