I am an alumnus from Centennial's first graduating class in 1955. Some of the comments about the quality of the teaching staff, or lack thereof, reminded me that when our class celebrated the 50th anniversary of our graduation, Centennial's principal at the time didn't even bother to show up when we began our celebration by visiting the campus. To me, that said it all. The principal couldn't be bothered to meet with members of Centennial's FIRST graduating class. Pathetic.
The loss of the Operation Director/ Principal of our school, Centennial High School, where I work, is one of the greatest losses in all my years of teaching experience. Mr. Jones has brought the respect, order, organization, empowerment and pride to Centennial, that the students, the staff and the community has been deserving of. With and under the direction of Mr. Jones, Centennial moved from a program improvement school to a safe harbor school and was on it's way to full accreditation in my opinion. Recent events that have led to his resignation, I truly believe are unjustly unfounded and misdirected. As an individual staff member, I will always stand up and support Mr. Jesse Jones. The joy, life, love and pride he has freely offered to our staff and students will not be forgotten. Maureen McCoy Spanish Teacher Centennial High School Compton, California
This school needs more teachers, security!! Every time I come to this school there are always students walking and it's not just 5 students there's more lets just say 15-20 in different directions. There needs to be security to tell these students to get to class. The school is just so unprofessional.
KENDRICK LAMARRRRRR! DOPEST RAPPER TO WALK THESE HALLS! AFTERMATH BABY! KENDRICK KENDRICK KENDRICK KENDRICK LAMAR
Im a student at centennial high and when i first started my 9th grade there were pointless riots and sometimes I would be in the middle of it and im not the type of person to fight but there was teachers that pulled the kids that wernt involved in the riot including me and ask to see if we are ok. as of now 2010-2012 this school has greatly improved we went from 6 riots a year to none at all there are students with 4.0 gpa and they are making it in life. I beive that CENTENNIAL IS A GREAT PLACE TO LEARN. i love the all mighty apache!! and i will always be an apache!!! BIG 10
This school needs real money put into it. Some of the classrooms are just depressing; how do we expect the children to be positive in this type of environment. The floors are dirty; ceilings and walls have holes, broken desks, etc. Atmosphere makes a big difference in ones feeling & attitude. Some of the teachers are really good but unfortunately the bad ones out weight the good ones. There needs to be more parent involvement.
Actuall y the school is great! there so much money thrown at us and the teachers are excellent it's up to the student to take advatage of the opportunities given to them, which are many, and im not a parent, im a student, so my a opinion is worth a little bit moreb/c i'm a student and i'm the one that experiences everything, unlike parents
Centennial has come a long way. I remember a few years ago when it needed to pass accredidation- and it did. Everyone needs to put their components into making a school work. Blaming is easy, it's the self recongnition that's hard. Try that and Centennial can be just as great as other schools.
As a student at Centennial High, i think the parents and teachers need to get more involed and encourage us to do well. the school is also lacking on; desks, books, and school supplies. other than that we are doing great! we just need more support from parents, teachers, and students as well.
As a student at the big ten the school is doing real bad in every aspect that there is. There is a shortage of teachers, the principal shows no initiative, there is also a lack of school supplies ( school books, chairs and desks, computers, no library use, no computer use and also no copy machine use by the teachers). I wouldn't recommend this school to any one at all.
When a school is under scrutiny from the state, the High School administration will begin documenting teachers to begin a paper trail on incompetent teachers, seeking to put focus on teacher commitment. Administrators have a lots of time to ponder these observations vs taking time to be interactive with students and teachers in a constructive and more directive way. Administrators have become experts on refocusing blame on others but themselves. Too many administrators view teachers as the problem and not the parents, not society. How many administrators send their students to their local public high schools. Do the research!\ Michael Luna
Well I am a student here @ Centennial High School and it is not all that bad. We are very bright and smart here @ The Ten. We are working very hard on test and we all do care. We all are good @ sports. (for the people who is involved) But I think that we need more help from the parents. I think that it will really bring us together as a whole. It will help.
As a former teacher of this troubled school, I can say that from the poor leadership of this administration to its undisciplined and low motivated students, the school should be taken over by the State. All talk, but no action. That is why I had to resign, because of no action and no leadership from its administration.
I think the 10 needs to work on getting along socially as well as emotionally! Centennial has come along way,and all it needs is a little push from parents and more from teachers. The problem with us children today is not only ourselves but the parents and administrators as well. Your involvement with these children helps a real great deal. If we all stuck together the children will most definitely become successful. And we will have you to thank!
I think the school would be a better learning environment if some teachers and staff think about the students. A lot of student act on what they see at home with there parents and teachers. So, if the staff & teachers remember students come first I think that we all can make the school a better learning place, grade scores will increase, test scores will improve,AP SCORES will definitely go on a raise.
This is a calm school that has great teachers that stay after school to help students who are behind in class or need more special help. It does need a great deal of parent involvement, but other than that, it is really good. It has sports for students to participate in and clubs to join where students can organize fundraisers to pay for trips to different places, or sweaters with the club name or etc,. The principal makes sure to have everything organized, and is accessible for parents to conference with. My experience there was great mainly because i made it that way, so your child must do the same to have a good experience. The students should remember to not let personal or hate problems get the best of them.
As a teacher at Centennial who previouly worked in the travel industry, I would like to ask all those who care about young people to contribute time, money or support to this inner city school. Our students are great but many need all the confidence and support our communities can muster. 'A mind is a terrible thing to waste.'
