Teacher effectiveness: Effective
September 05, 2015
The teachers are as effective as they can be given what they have to work with. The teachers get only a 30 minute break from the time they start at 7:45am until they dismiss the students at 2:30pm. There is no morning recess for the students and therefore no break for the teachers either. These are difficult working conditions for both teachers and students.

Develops grit: Strongly agree

The goal is for all students to be college bound. The teachers and students are all working toward that goal. The schools itself now needs to reflect that. The superintendent does not seem to care about the upkeep and condition his schools. There is only so much a principal can do without the support of the administration. It's sad really.

Develops respect: Strongly agree

The school definitely develops respect in its students. The students respect, but the superintendent does not. Class size is out of control, especially in special education. No one can learn if there are 20 - 28 students in a special day class. This is out of the school principals hands and it will change only when parents have had enough and make their voices heard. The superintendent is not doing the students or teachers justice. There needs to be some big changes made in the upper administration (the superintendent and school board).

This school is on the upswing. The new principal, Salvador Aquino is making positive changes in the way the students are taught. He is also providing the teachers with a lot of professional development opportunities. He is a good, positive leader and has a good grasp on the changes that need to take place in order for students to have the best education possible. Class size, especially Special Education classes, is alarmingly high. That is an issue that is basically out of a principal's control. Parents need to voice their concerns directly to the superintendent and the school board if they want to see changes made. It is the higher ups whose decisions clearly show their lack of concern for students. If parents don't speak up nothing will change.

My child attend this school, he is so far behind. I think the teachers at roosevelt elementary should start having work shops with the teachers at laurel elementary school in compton so that they can improve on these students grades.
