The rating of the school as a 5 of 10 is grossly inappropriate. Marchus is not easy to compare with other schools as it does not service regular school children. The children at Marchus struggle with a wide array of disabilities, including Autism and therefore, standardized testing shows little of this school. The reality is Marchus is a wonderful school for children who are emotionally and mentally challenged and it provides a well rounded academic and therapeutic program. This school changes lives.
As much as I hated going to Marchus. In the end It did help me out. I hated every minute of it. But now that I look back I'd like to thank all the teachers that helped me out. Ken McNamara was key in my opinion of graduating. But I was disappointed in the lack of parking for students! ;-)
Marcus is a godsend for our family. My 14-year-old daughter has been there 4 months. She was ostracized in her prior school and became so distraught, anxious and depressed that she had to be hospitalized. Marcus has coached her to develop emotional management skills and self-confidence again. She has developed amazing emotional depth and maturity just in the brief time she's been there. Her exposure to kids with all kinds of disabilities has had a wonderful side effect -- she's decided she wants to teach disabled kids when she grows up. The staff is outstanding and stays in close contact with us. She's really happy there, and so are we as her parents.
This school is AMAZING! My child has been in this school for 2 years and has really grown and has began to recover from years of ill treatment from teachers, administrators and others in the school district we were once in. At Marchus students are supported and also have a structured environment that they can thrive in. If a child is having serious problems in the mainstream this school may be the right place for him or her. The teachers are outstanding and the counselors and principal and staff are excellent as well.
I'm a student and I don't wanna give a name I would like to say that even though I'm still struggling at Marchus I think I've improved in listening skills and following staff directions. I love my school Flyod I. Marchus very much and I hope for the next students that come to this feel the same way.
This school has helped my son tremendously. He suffered in the public school and has received positive reinforcement and support from the staff at this school. He feels satisfied and confident and understands what is expected of him here. The parent counseling is excellent and greatly appreciated! Thank you - I would recommend this school to anyone whose child struggles in the mainstream public school. Only recommendation I would make would be to include school photo day and carnival, drama, fun type activities to add extra cirricular activities
