I love Clayton Valley Charter High School. It provides a great environment for my students to learn and succeed. The administration has put in place excellent programs and procedures to help students succeed and prepare for life after high school. The teachers receive a lot of professional training so that they can instruct the students in relevant ways to help them succeed in the classroom. The parents are encouraged to participate and volunteer on campus. Whenever we have a question of anyone at the school it is responded to within 24 hours with professionalism and respect. I am extremely impressed with the positive changes at CVCHS which are too numerous to list here.
Campus safety went from daily fights to virtually no fights and the grounds are clean every day. There is a "no failure zone", a Bridge to Success class for kids falling behind, Credit Recovery online and on Saturdays to improve failing grades, and tutors after school. Parents come out in droves (over 250 consistent volunteers) to help on campus. The Freshman Transition and Challenge Day for Sophomores are awesome Character Ed programs for our students. Graduation rate has improved from 83% to 96% in just 2 years. We have 3 guidance counselors and a great college & career department. Professional Development for all staff has been encouraged and the faculty has been able to update themselves to 21st century skills including Common Core standards. Increased Advanced Placement courses and Academies are being offered to create a more rigorous and relevant learning atmosphere. Technology has been updated for the entire campus, and building maintenance and upgrades happen year-round. All of this for a FREE public education which is causing a wait list of around 400 students every year. Administration has done a fantastic job leading our school from good to great!
This high school is great! Graduation requirements were made more rigorous when it became a charter school and yet graduation rates increased. They have added AP classes and invested heavily in teacher training. They ask a lot from students and staff, but they are getting results. Best of all, students are supported. They have numerous programs to support students including a freshman transition program and a Challenge Day. They have added to guidance staff and invested in programs to help student develop post graduation plans. Love it!
