This is a very good school and the teachers are wonderful! My child is a 5.0 student and she loves the diversity.
Local school with diverse population. Would like to see higher academics offered and expected from students.
My son is doing well at this school, Great football coaches, good teachers, very happy here.
Potentially unsafe school. My stepdaughter attends and has been involved with gang activity there. It seems she cut classes 15 days in 6 weeks before a teacher phoned us at home. Predominately hispanic community with a huge focus on ESL courses. My son who is college bound states that as long as you put any effort into a class, you will receive an A or B whether you try or not. Teachers have no control over the students in the classroom and the kids are getting a poor education there. Caution do not move into this school district.
This school is great. They have the best extracuricular activities in the area. Their leadership program, band program and ap classes are the best in the county by far.
I am a former student of YVHS. Some of the teachers I had were excellent and inspiring. They really did a great job at preparing me for college.
Ygnacio Valley High school has improved greatly. My student is happy with how the school is more focused on doing better. According to my student and his friends, it is more peaceful and has been gaining a safer and better reputation that what most considered years ago. A look at other schools in the district today is more like what Ygnacio Valley used to be. I'm proud to be a YV parent.
While this school's poor reputation and rough campus is justified, I've seen a huge turnaround in the quality of leadership and teachers. If these gems can be encouraged, I see an amazing future.
I am a parent of now a senior at YV and I must say I am so happy for my son to leave this place. The overall atmosphere of the school is so biased that some of the teachers fit right into the mold. The campus screams segregation to no end with some if not most of the teachers promoting it as well. If there are problems with your student and/or a teacher the teachers will not make the time to speak with you until your child is way out of control and they want a suspension. I have another son who will be a junior next year and I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out where he'll attend school next year. I don't want to look at YV or it's incompetent teachers another day past graduation. One great teacher out of four years....so sad.
I am now a senior at Ygnacio Valley, and I am so glad that I got to be a part of this community. The teachers have been amazingly supportive and I feel that they have adequately prepared me to further my education at college next year. The AP programs are challenging and have truly expanded my knowledge.
I am currently a new student at YVHS. So far it has been very great. The teachers are very helpful.
YV will be getting a new principal for the 2003-2004 school year. She was well liked and effective at her last school, so I am hopeful that she will bring lots of energy to the school. Both my students took AP and Honors classes when available. Our school has slightly more AP classes than other high schools in the District. One student is a 3rd year student in college the other will be a 1st year student. However, that said, even with AP and Honors classes, they did not get the amount or level of homework and paper writing skills that are needed for college. There has been concern raised by other parents about the classes available to the general student population. We have a wide diversity of capabilities and students going on for further education. We have several Academies in the school: Health, Education. The school also has clusters in freshman and sophomore years where 90 students are in the same cluster for core classes to allow teachers to better follow students and for students to feel connected to the school. Also, we will be establishing learning pathways where students may select a focus for their learning, such as fine arts, math, science. This is new so it is in the formative stages. Overall, we have some young energetic teachers who are trying in inovative ways to get students hooked on learning. Scores have started to rise, so I am hopefull that more students will have success.
