School Official Point of View

What could be better than fun and games at Cedargrove? Getting to play those games with amazing teachers and your own fabulous family! That’s right, Cedargrove’s Family Math Night brings together staff, parents, students, and even one very special COHS student. All the games involved math and strategy. Students used geometry to build fantastic paper airplanes, addition and subtraction to crack puzzles, and logic to unlock secret codes. It was a fantastic evening of learning and fun! By the end of the event several students won raffles and took home books, posters, calculators, and other great prizes. Parents brought children of all ages to join in the fun. One parent shared, ‘This was a really fun evening for all of us.’ And, Cedargrove’s fun has only just begun. On November 18th, we’ll be celebrating Family Reading Night! Come and join us for a night of Family Fun! For more info on Cedargrove Elementary, visit www.cousd.net

SCHOOL LEADER
This summer, Cedargrove sponsored a Summer Reading Challenge. Cedargrove’s Librarian, Kristen White, challenged students to read ten books over the summer in their target level. This would be about one book a week. Mrs. White gave each student a reading log with their name and target level, and she collected donated books and prizes to hand out at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. Students began turning in their parent signed reading logs as soon as the office opened for the new school year. After two weeks, 43 completed reading logs were turned in. This ranged from two kindergarteners to sixth graders. 2nd and 5th grade had the highest participation rate. Each student was rewarded with a certificate, treat package, and a new book in front of their class. One of the winners was voted this year’s ASB student body president. Students were excited and proud of their classmates’ achievements. This program is certain to grow next summer. Mrs. White’s goal in all of this is to reduce the summer reading loss that occurs each year and continue to build better students and thereby better citizens.

OMG.Best School ever, for I only wish that I enrolled my son sooner. This is my first year at this school because my son went to Tk-1st grade at cvusd, and i assure you that charter oak unified is the best all around. My son has a wonderful 2nd grade teacher, but all the teachers seem dedicated and I love how it goes up to 6th grade , and it does not require uniforms which is fantasic. The school environment is big beautiful and clean. The office staff is happy to help who ever enters. The kids seem undercontrol, furthermore I can tell that my son is learning way more because of all the programs they have and resources available. This school makes learning fun and has made me a happy parent , the best part is they have a principle and a assistant principle and both of them do an outstanding job..Every morning before school starts the have recess and both of them are out there on the playground and when bell rings he or she will shout in a fun loud voice that greets the students and students reply back..- now this is my favorite thing about the school because I love to see the principles interact with the children and they do so always in a caring, fun way.His last school the principle was like never around and then when she was outside she seemed mad and always had a complaint or was busy scolding someone .. What a change I had no idea that a principle could be so eager and helpful. They make this school stand out above the rest by bring number 1 and it would not be the same without them. Those 2 are the kind of educators that I admire and I want my child to be around because they bring out the best by making school fun to be at.They even give out golf tickets ...honestly this school and the staff there really make me happy to be part of .. Send your child here you will not regret it for it is better than private school too.Chater oak unfied is #1 .

The teachers and staff at Cedargrove have all provided my son with a meaningful and challenging curriculum. Business Day is a huge incentive for him. I also appreciate the on-site before and after school childcare and the staff who help with homework and watch over my child.

Cedargrove has a dedicated staff that have provided my children with an excellent education. I am impressed with their emphasis on golden behavior because developing good citizens is just as important as academic growth.
