Since August, students enrolled in GATE History have been working on a History Day project. Each project submitted addressed this year's theme: "Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange inHistory." Students were given a variety of choices on how to present their topic, including an exhibit board, website, performance, or documentary. From among the projects submitted, 45 students comprising 13 groups were chosen to represent Royal Oak Middle School at this year's History Day LA competition. The competition was held Saturday, March 12. By day's end, several Royal Oak students had been recognized for their excellent projects and two of them, were selected as members of the Los Angeles County Team. These students participated in the state competition, May 5 -7. Every Royal Oak student who participated in the History Day competition did outstanding work on their project. They all deserve the utmost congratulations.

ROMS Drama finally got the fantastic news about the 2nd national competition that The Drowsy Chaperone was entered in. The American Prize evaluates community, university, and high school level performance groups in several arts areas. Mrs. Pedroche felt so sure that her cast of The Drowsy Chaperone could stand up to the competition that she entered her Jr. High production in the contest. The judges were incredibly impressed with the quality and talent of the production. Though first place went to a University program, and second went to a high school pay-to-perform troupe, ROMS Drama received a special judges award and third place (beating out performing arts high schools)!
