My daughter is currently in kindergarten at PDR, and we couldn't be happier. This is a small neighborhood school and there is a great community feel, with lots of participation by parents and families. The principal is everything an elementary school principal should be (skilled, diplomatic, patient, caring), and the teachers are not only dedicated, but also some of the most skilled professionals I have met (and I'm a former teacher). PDR is very diverse both culturally and socio-economically, and everyone sees this as the asset that it is. I really can't say enough; I'm so glad that we moved into the neighborhood.

My son is a 5th grader at PDR and we love it! Ms. Blue is an awesome principal. She's loving yet stern. The teachers are great and it's obvious that they love what they do.

My child attended their pre-K program and I liked it so much that I sent my child here for elementary. All the teachers seem to be good, some are excellent. The principal is hands on and being such a small school, it fosters a true school community.

I love this neighborhood school. The teachers and staff are extremely passionate and caring about their students and school. They have a community garden and lots of activities and field trips for the kids to participate in. They even have movie nights in the auditorium with free pizza where kids can wear their jammies! Parent involvement is high and we are in constant contact with the teachers. I wish she could stay at this school into high school but it only goes to grade 5 i believe.

This school is soo great! I love the fact that its a very small school in comparison to most LAUSD schools. This was important to me when I chose this school last year for my daughter. The teachers and staff are very involved with the kids. I could not have picked a better place!! Forgot to mention that the parents are very involved with improving our school as well

This is a fantastic school - a hidden gem in the world of big city LAUSD schools! My son is in Kinder now (we started there in Pre-K) & he (well, we) LOVE it! Wonderful, warm, supportive and respectful teachers who truly care about your child. The administration & staff are nice, friendly and very helpful. The new principal, Ms. Blue, is a wonderful addition and is involved in all aspects of the school, as well as very approachable and open to suggestions & ideas. The school welcomes parents volunteering in & outside the classroom. It is a small, close-knit community that truly cares about the kids & bettering school and the "system" all-around. Check it out for yourself!

Playa just keeps getting better. Not only is this small school able to provide caring, individualized attention to students, the academics are superb. The school's API went up 76 points in one year! We love this school!

My child has been part of Playa since Pre-K and is now in the 3rd grade. We have some of the most caring and qualified teachers and staff around. Our principal works closely with the parents, teachers and children to make sure that everything possible is being done to ensure a quality education and a great learning environment. Parent involvement is getting better all of the time and the kids all truly feel like they are part of the Playa family.

Unbelieveable what great leadership is doing in this small school in West LA. I have a daughter in 1st and another in Pre-K- wonderful, dedicated teachers! Currently looking for Pre-K and Kinder students to join this wonderful school... contact the principal directly, Ms. Pierce- you will be very happy that you did!

The Pre-K is fantastic. Very overqualified teachers for this grade --at least.

I love this school. My son has been there since the 1st grade. Each teacher that he has had has been wonderful and smart. The classes are small and the teachers have chance to give each child personal time. The new principle seems to be very involed and dedicated.

The new pricipal is wonderful. She is the perfect fit and is sincerely looking to make the school the best it can be. Parent involvement is gaining momentum. The teachers are especially caring and very good at what they do. My children are receiving a wonderful education!! The afterschool program is new and improved and my kids love it! (Chess, Computers, Yoga, Hip-Hop) its the LAUSD's best kept secret!!!

This small school is getting better and better, now that we have a new principal. There are great teachers that are involved and care and the booster club is up and moving forward. This is one of the best kept secret schools around.

You have to be in this school to know what it's really like! Preschool teachers seem to be awesome! Not a lot of parent involvement, Same few parents are always involved. Teachers are very nice, although some maybe lacking in quality of their teaching skills. My kid was not happy as some kids have behavior problems and were mean. The new principal seems to be handling it great! I'd like to see the API rating go up. It has gone down. It can't seem to go above the 5 or 6 rating...

I am very happy with this school, my son's preschool class is great. His teacher...she's so wonderful, both teachers that lead this class are exceptional. They really do care about the children. My son has been privaledged to be in this class for two years and been taught by these two awesome people.

We now have great teachers and great leadership of the school who work with the parents to make sure that our children's education is put first. We have great parent involvement, but I would love to see more. This is a great little school and is truly unique among the many schools of LAUSD. I am extremely pleased with the education that my child is receiving here.

I really like this school, my kindergarter loves it so much she wants to go on Saturdays. I found the principal very kind and nice. I found the kindergarten teacher caring and very patience. I wish more parents got involved and stop complaining all the time. If you dont like it ...help fix it. The booster club is awesome and very, very committed. We should be proud to have a club like this in our school. Go Boosters you are much appreciated ..thank you

Playa has a group of wonderful and dedicated teachers.Unfortunately ,the principal is not approachable, unfriendly and lacks people skills. This can be an awesome neighborhood school that families can boast and be proud of attending.

Playa has some really dedicated teachers who put the needs of students first, much to the chagrin of the principal. This school inherited a principal whose behavior is so unpleasant and unprofessional, it has greatly demoralized teachers and parents. The principal shows little respect and sensitivity to teachers, parents, and students. Still there was considerable parent involvement this past year, due to the hard work and efforts of the booster club and its current president. This school is in dire need of a dynamic, sensitive, and effective leader who is willing to engage teachers, parents and students in collaborative decision making and planning rather than paying lip service to stakeholders and doing whatever s/he wants anyway.

Very impressed with the teachers and staff. Lots of activities - music, art, etc.. Wish there were more in-room parent volunteers - the teachers do a lot.

The teachers in the lower grades are committed to their students. The teachers use all sorts of teaching styles and aids to help the kids learn. Kids are also exposed to music, art and sports through PSarts. Parental involvement is lacking though. It seems there are only a core group of parents who do everything for the school.

The teacher and programs are great. The prek and kindergarten programs are wonderful. The only issue is the leadership/principal doesn't seem to fit the needs or the personality of the school and its families. The previous principal was outstanding!

My child just completed the pre-K SRLDP. I believed this would be more of a daycare program than anything else. It is so much more. The kids are constantly challenged to learn through different activities. They are also included in the outstanding music and arts program that is available to the rest of the school. The teachers are caring and are genuinely concerned about the education the kids receive. The principal is an interesting choice. She seems to be more suited to middle or high school than elementary. Looking forward to kindergarten.

My daughter attended Kindergarten and is now in 1st grade at Playa. We like the family atmosphere that this small school has been able to provide. Playa has separate music and art programs which are also quite impressive for a school of this size. We were somewhat apprenhensive about sending our child to this school due to its low API test scores but the school has been improving steadily. Our child has excelled at reading and this is due to the hands-on caring approach of her teachers.

regretfully, the school has declined in leadership in the last three years. programs that had been established previously were put on the wayside in hopes that the pta would raise the level of parent involvement and improve the school's moral and activites. if the child's parent(s) is involved with the school's pta or an integral part of the school's fund raising, those children seem to receive an 'edge' over other children.

The school was on a path to success with the former principal. Leadership has been lacking at this school for the last few years. Too bad, the children deserve more. The good thing, the teachers continue to care just as much as before.
