Great student to teacher ratios, healthy lunch program, preschool curriculum includes co-teaching in Spanish, option to include Mandarin Chinese in pre-K level, play based program focusing on science and art, available after school programs in music/STEM programs/dance/soccer, and caring teachers who are there because they love what they do!!!
Mindfulness is at the core of what the kids learn in the preschool program. If there's a conflict over a toy or other object of interest, the kids are not arbitrarily forced to share, but take turns instead. All efforts are made to validate the emotions kids experience and help them develop an understanding of empathy and how to articulate what they may be feeling.
Peregrine's founder, Lorie Hammond, has created the only Reggio Emilia inspired school in the Sacramento area. The top notch teachers have diverse backgrounds, but one thing that seems consistent is their love of teaching and the unique atmosphere at Peregrine.
Some teachers hold PhD's, while others are working on their masters degrees. The teachers seem to like working at Peregrine for the school's Reggio Emilia inspired philosophy and the type of teaching/learning environment it emphasizes.
Kept my daughter at this school in elementary (she was there for preschool) despite Davis having highly-regarded public schools. It's been worth it. Moderate class sizes, very strong science and arts, and exceptional teaching staff set Peregrine apart.
