The curriculum is a joke. There is no preperation for highschool. You get stuck with the same teacher for 2-3 years. D.C school is broke. There is no P.E, at all.

three of my children attended this school, and we where very happy with their education there. The academic programs are very up-to date. Music, art and sports all play an important roll in their curiculum. Parent involvement is about 70 percent, but they are working on improving this. I think that this school is the best elementry/middle school in the area.

Douglas City School offers a very special environment where children get a head start on a successful life. In addition to maintaining high educational standards, their incredible staff and programs of student interaction build high self-esteem and appreciation and respect for others. With their incredible arts program children learn a multitude of mediums and performance skills, not afraid to try new things. The talent and confidence levels gained is incredible. At age 10, my daughter painted a self portrait which was immediately recognizable. My 7 year old son was reading 90 words per minute the 1st semester of this year. My daughters cheerleading team, only 6 children, 4 in 6th grade, took 3rd place in the Nationals this year. Children leave DCS confident, knowing they can do anything. Parental participation is encouraged, and many functions throughtout the year instill a feeling of community and caring. A highly recommended rural school.
