I have two sons, and both have attended West. This is a great school! There are so many activities for the kids, and parents are very involved. The are the only Junior High in Downey with a marching band, and there are many other clubs, sports and programs for the kids to be involved in. The staff is amazing! The teachers as well as the administrators are very involved with the students.

This year has shown me how wonderful this school is. There have been so many chances for us parents to be more active in the school. They had a parent program that was fantastic. The best part was that not only the company teaching us was there each week, there were actual school teachers there saying hi and making sure we were comfortable. It made me feel like they really valued what we were doing. The principal and vice principal were wonderful too and answered so many questions with a smile. Thank you West!

My son had a great experience during his 3 years at West Middle School. There were many areas to be involved in such as: ASB, sports, band, Gate, AVID, Aspire, guitar club, chess club, CJSF, Library service, West TV etc. . .There was also advanced technology within the school structure which provided its students with greater preparation for High School. The teachers taught material that was challenging and provided creative ways of learning. My son went to high school well prepared thanks to the teachers and staff at West.

I love leaving my children at west. They have wonderful teachers and a great staff. one thing I do have a problem with is west middle school having no choir, my daughter loves to sing and she would love to sing at west . Other than that it is a great school.

West has a dedicated group of teachers and administrators ready to help students. The school has definitely gone through some changes in the last few years, but they are dedicated to the success of their students. Great music, yearbook, drama program. They have a new program called the Parent Academy to promote parental involvement.

The teachers are well trained and very easy to talk to. There are a lot of sports and other things like music available for the students. I think that the discipline is good at the school, and the principal is fair.
