What I love about this School is that they really watch our kids. They are really against boyfriends/girlfriends relationship in Elementary and Middle School. If they sin, they will be disciplined. Some children are testing the school and parents, but they will not get away with it. I wouldn't put my child in a public school, because I know my child wouldn't be watched like at Calvary.

Calvary is a nightmare and proved to be an incredible waste of our children's time and our money. To no fault of the staff hardly any are credentialed to teach. Some great reporting has actually been done on how when they (the staff) do complete a teacher's program they are often let go by the admins to cut costs. Inexperienced teachers with o classroom management, high costs for horrible and often inaccurate lessons, no guidance whatsoever for students looking to further their education, the list goes on and on. If children do go on to a four year college what they quickly find out is that they are illequipped to compete. Wish we could go back in time and to a public school. Sorry guys

My 4 year old attends the pre-school and I feel so blessed to have found this school. Im reading some of these reviews and am in disbelief. I can only speak for the pre-school and can tell you that i see nothing but great things. It's a wonderful Christian atmosphere and the children are constantly being challenged academically.

Outstanding individual care. Solid support for struggling students. Great music program voice in particular. Not enslaved to sports. But happily supports them.

This is a great school! The teachers and staff are flexible and willing to work with the parents. The curriculum is a christian curr. so Gods word is taught in all subjects. the sports and music programs are great, my kids love it. There is a lot of parent involvement and my family is blessed to be part of this school. This is going to be a great year. 'Hold Fast' 2 Timothy 1:13-14

I had 2 children in Calvary. They were not being challenged academically. I pulled them out before it was too late for them academically. My oldest should not have any problem catching up. This child is highly motivated. My younger child, I took out so this child would not get behind. The oldest child is 3 grades ahead and the youngest is a grade ahead ( according to STAR testing). I want them to be prepared for the future. Academically ( home and school)and Spiritual (home and church)

I attended Calvary Chapel Christian Schools of Downey for 10 years and I personally have mixed feelings about the school. Spiritually it is a great place to have your child attend, however, it is sometimes hard to focus on God when teachers and staff are having just as much drama as the students. Academically CCCS use to be above all other schools, but now is behind and not challenging. This allowed me to easily get good grades and is now coming back to bite me as i struggle to get a 3.0 in college when i was a straight A student throughout my Calvary career. Within the Administration many shady things have happened when it comes to hiring and firing. Highly qualified teachers have been let go because of rubbing certain people the wrong way, and under qualified teachers have been hired to replace them. But you be the judge.

With one daughter attending Calvary for her junior and senior year, and one daughter from 3rd to 8th grade, I can say that this is a spiritually safe environment for your children. Our daughter applied herself and earned enough AP exam credits to save her one half year college tuition. Thank you Mr. O! (a great teacher!) But most importantly, her faith is intact. The music program is amazing, led by an amazing woman of God who is working on her doctorate, just one of many great examples to the children.

I've been reading these comments for some time now and i feel that i need to make a comment for all of you that have made negative comments, i have 3 children that have been at calvary all their lives, 2 have now graduated from college and are still serving the lord (praise god) i have one left in calvary and i want you all to know that this school is not a perfect school but what school is, what calvary is without a question is a god fearing school that does not compromise when it comes to the things of god and many parents are not willing to take responsibility for the actions of our children. We are the parents. Calvary has teachers that love the lord, are they perfect no but neither are we, academics are up to par with everyone else just check sat's

Wow!. I am truly in awe of this school. My son started High School this year and I have to say my son loves it. My felt welcome from the first moment he started. The teachers are great and you see how much they love the Lord and how much they care for the students. The student/teacher ratio is great. I love the administration. The ladies are great and they always have a smile and make you feel welcome. This school has a great Christian atmosphere and along with the academics I know my son will be fine.

I agree with most parents in that this school has a great Christian atmosphere, but academically I do not think it is compatible with other schools. I had to take my 4th grader out of Calvary and place him in a public school and this year and he is having a hard time. Mind you, he was a straight A student at Calvary. I hated having to pull my child. I love this school, but I have to prepare him for the real world.

I don't see how other students felt like Calvary did not prepare them academicly. I was a student at Calvary and when I graduated I realized that I knew a lot more than other student in my classes at the Univerisities I attended. I was always at the top of my class because Calvary did a great job at preparing me for Higher Education. At Calvary the teachers actually care and want to see you succeed. Calvary also prepared me spiritually and gave me a strong foundation in my faith.

This school definitely has a great Christian atmosphere, but if you want my honest opinion, I wouldn't put my kids here. Students from Calvary have a serious disadvantage from every direction going into the real world. Calvay... well, they don't prepare you for real life. And the academics are WAAAY behind public schools. We're kind of a laughing stock.

We just started our son in Kindergarten this year and he loves it. The school's focus is Christ we love how this is modeled by the teachers and staff. We are amazed at how much he is learning. He has made a lot of great friends and never complains about having to go to school. We would highly recommend this school.

I found this school to be fantastic. Kids, teachers, parents. I also found that when college testing, Calvary kids tested higher than public school kids. Love the class size, school size and all the involement with parents. Just a wonderful experience. I wish I could have had this opportunity when I was in school. These children are blessed to go to this wonderful school.

This school is excellent for Christian Education however, academically very behind. I pulled my kids and put them in public school. They had hard time catching other students.

I have to admit that some of the teachers at this school are very child oriented; however, there are those that lack the basic communication skills to inform parents on student progress. I pulled my two students from that school and placed them in public school were the curriculum is much rigorous and it's free!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
