I can not say enough good things about this school! The teachers are amazing and still teach in a student centered fashion. The learning is hands on with many field trips to support the curriculum. In an age of teaching to the test Durham has kept the students need to love learning at the fore front. I feel so blessed that my children had the memorable kindergarten years that Durham provides, with trick or treating around local businesses and the fall feast. These are memories that my children are going to take with them for the rest of their lives, I know because I am a former student and have fond elementary school memories. Thank you to the teachers who go above and beyond to give students the best possible education. I only hope the school continues this level of student education by keeping class size small.
Durham Elementary School is the most amazing elementary school. The teachers are excellent and make you feel like they care about your child and his/her education. My children and I feel that we were very fortunate they got to attend Durham Elementary School
My child has excelled with the programs at DES not only academically but socially as well. DES teachers are wonderful and caring, the only concern I have is the overall administration with the district. The new superintendent has made many poor decisions for the district and is a poor communicator. I hope that DES staff can endure her poor decisions and it doesn't gravely effect DES students. I watched many HS students at board meetings last year who were emotionally crushed last year due to the superintendent's very poor decisions and lack of communication.
Durham Elementary school has a loving environment, high quality academics, and a large amount of efficiant volunteers. DES is a community supported school with an amazing amount of parent support. An all around great school that offers art and music (5th gr.) in the curriculum.
Durham provides top-rated learning environment. The quality is high because all of the teachers have a passion for what they do here. Each child is accounted for and each staff member works as a team with each other to benefit the children. VAPA(Visual and Performong Arts) is a unique and enriching experience for the children. Art, music, and drama is taught by a highly qualified teacher(who deserves the teacher of the year nomination!) who has extensive knowledge and experience in this area. The level of parental involvement is out of this world. It is amazing at the difference of the classes in which has more or less parental involvement. Parental involement is crucial to the child's success. The teacher's welcome the parents and they have a great working relationship. This school shines for teacher spirit and their love for the children shows with the most comprehensive education this county offers.
Both of my children were new students this year. The academics of this school is just amazing. I can't believe what they are doing in the grade levels they are currently in!
Durham has a caring staff. Everybody knows all the students by name. It is so nice to have a new teacher say welcome and your child's name as they come into their new class. During our open house you can go into any room and see what the teacher does. They also meet and place students with a teacher that fits the kids needs.
