We moved to El Segundo because of its own school district. My daughter was attending one of the best LAUSD elementary school in west side but we did not like the way of LAUSD at all ! So we decided to get my daughter out of LAUSD and found this small but nice community and schools. We are very happy about school, teachers, parents, home works, activities, big school yard and nice facility. Wish we knew this school much earlier !
My daughter just started her Kindergarten year at Richmond Street and, after a rough few days of adjustment, she is loving school. She is making new friends, wants to learn and says she is excited to go to school. I am very excited that she is having such a great experience so far!!
We Love RSS! We moved here from Mid-Wilshire, where my two closest LAUSD chools were in the 400 and 500s APIs (and I lived in a terrific neighborhood). I cannot stress enough how wonderful RSS is --- our Kinder teacher is fantastic and the Principal is super responsive. Parent involvement is very high, and the expectations are that each parent will get involved, help raise funds, volunteer, etc. Meeting those expectations can sometimes be tough for working parents, but the result of such high engagement is that the school offers a very vibrant, exciting environment with strong academics and lots of extracurricular activities. This is an EXCELLENT school and we feel fortunate to have moved here and become part of the Richmond Street famiily.
So far, so good - just finished TEDDE and my son couldn't be happier. His teacher (so sad, she retired) was AMAZING - caring, loving, yet disciplined. She taught our children the most important thing that will set them up for a lifetime of learning - how to use their words. How to work things out. I would see kids on the playground talking about what was making them upset instead of going straight to fighting. I feel this school is very special.
We moved from Playa del Rey to get our daughter out of LAUSD and into the El Segundo School District. It was the best decision we've made regarding her education. Not only is the school well funded with outstanding teachers/admin/staff, but everyone seems to be very concerned with teaching children how to think versus just worring about test scores. Low and behold, children are engaged, learning, thinking and the test scores are great. We couldn't be happier and would move all over again!
My son is thriving here!! It is so small town, yet has very high standards. Everyone knows your child from the principal to the cafeteria ladies to the plant managers. Many opportunities for parental involvement so you can keep up on things. Teachers are very responsive as demonstrated when many of us felt that the amount of homework in Kindergarten was a bit excessive. I would highly recommend this school. (but then our class sizes might go up...)
It isn't just this school but the entire community. El Segundo is a wonderful place to raise children with all of the activities from the Halloween Frolic to Candy Cane Lane. The entire staff at the school is easy to work with and very friendly. Volunteering is the best way to get to know the teachers and staff and to keep up with what your child is learning. I'm so glad that everyone seems happy to have parents around all the time. Oh, yeah the cirriculum is perfect too.
This school is awesome, and you won't find a better public school around. Principle is responsive and caring; teachers are educated and parent involvement is high; if you are searching for a top notch school, this is it! They have programs for art, music, karate, and other activities.
We are a military family. Our third grader has always been a straight 'A' student, so I did quite a bit of research on schools in the area before we selected Richmond. There website was thorough and informative. The principal made herself available to accommodate us when we were coming to town and gave us a tour. Our daughter Malia is now primarily a 'B' student but we believe this to be attributed to the higher academic standard that the school holds, which is fine with us. Her teacher, Ms. Evans is awesome! I could not have prayed for anyone better. She genuinely cares, listens and helps with any concerns. Her passion is evidenced through her work. The parent involvement is extremely high and mostly all activities are available at the school, big plus! There is also child care on the school grounds. -Stacey and Benjamin Jones
I can't say enough good about this school. It starts with the leadership; the principal is very available and responsive to parents, and she knows the children well. My child has some special education needs and came from a private school so she was used to a different curriculum, and a smaller classroom. The entire staff was so supportive to her, and to us as parents. This public school did a far better job meeting her needs than the private school did. We never felt put down, singled out, or pressured due to her special needs. 7 staff members (including the principal) attended her IEP planning meeting. The Resource Team was so caring and effective. Her success was their goal, and they met it! My daughter went from barely pulling through, to rating in almost advanced overall. I have high standards, and this school actually exceeded them. Amazing!
Richmond Street School is a parents dream. The staff is caring yet professional, parents are highly involved, the quality of education is superb. The children have access to music, art and sports. I hate to leave this district but job transfer requires us too. You can not go wrong with this school.
Quality of academcs is superb and seems to be a bit advanced. We are fortunate to have music and art still in our school along with P.E. Parent involvement is welcome and much appreciated. Each child attending this school is getting one of the best elementary educations around.
We also had a choice of Torrance, LAUSD and El Segundo. The clear choice was El Segundo. The teachers and curriculum are demanding and parent involvement is high. The teachers and staff are very patient, caring and interested in the children. Our 2nd grader is learning multiplication, division and is spelling three and four syllable words. The after school sponsored child care is terrific with very nice young adults who supervise homework and crafts projects. There is a real sense of community here which cuts both ways. There are definite cliques with both parents and children in the community. The school, however, is certainly a top rated school as shown by their API. My child really enjoys going to school at Richmond.
All three of my children have attended Richmond Street School. Their individual needs have been met and they have been challenged to achieve their personal best. The teachers and staff are caring.
This school provides my child with the extra one on one help that she needs and the teachers and staff are very caring. Thank you.
