Ms. Janicek is a superb principal and the school behaves as if it is a top notch private school. By enforcing a zero tolerance on bullying, Ms. Janicek taking the time and effort to learn every child by name and using strategies like allowing select 5th Graders to volunteer to be a special team to "patrol" the kindergarten grounds on recess helping smaller children problem solve their issues: they create an environment where it is safe for the children to speak up for themselves. Our children learn to look out for each other and be accountable for their actions.
My daughter is graduating Center Street School next week. We had an excellant experinece. My daughter attened CSS from K and I have to say every teacher she had was great. The education is challenging and the principal is very involved and very approachable. I highly recommend it. I feel very confident that my daughter is ready for middle school.
Overall, a great school. Teachers are responsive and involved. I'd like to see less busywork in the homework, and more emphasis on music, math and language. My son loves being a student here.
This school does well up against the average LAUSD elementary school. There are some minor flaws in their academic regimen, however the teachers are responsive and most are caring. Administration has never seemed overly courteous, but I do not deal with them often.
I think this school is great!
This school is adcademically very strong and balances equally with child's social manners and skills. The teachers are very experienced and understand each child's needs and work with each child and the parent to accompolish the expected standard level. Kids are well trained in kindergarten level to meet the challenges of further grades. Also kids are exposed to computers at kidergarten level each class have a computer to explore the topic assigned by the teacher under teacher's supevision. Also here is computer lab where kids are allowed to play educational games like jumpstart and other reading activities. also children have music class where they are taught music for all major religious celebration like christmas etc. Reading and Math are focused right from KG and emphasized at later grades so by 3rd grade each child will be able to read confidently and write grammatically and also add ,subtract and multiply and divide numbers
Center Street is a solid school with a great, supportive community. Parents are very involved, and my children (Kindergarten and 2nd Grade) have had wonderful teachers that are focused on learning. They do have a lot of parties and school events and performances, fields trips, etc., which I'm sure many feel contributes to the overall educational experience. I would prefer a more core academic thrust, with less 'fluffy' learning. But compared to the schools in the nearby districts, Center Street is top notch.
I liked my sons teachers and they did give good feedback and information but I didn't care for lack of consideration when things changed on the schools activities calander which was done by hard copy, I don't get them as I'm not the custodial parent and I believe this could be improved if someone at the school could keep the online calander up to date which was not nor was the phone call in system for notification updated properly. This is an administration problem. I was generally ok with the principle but I hadn't had to interface with her to much. Overall I like the atmosphere of the school but I had concern over the computers at this school, they were very outdated which in this day and age is very important for the kids.
School atmosphere is great for children to be educated and grow together. Staff is not very informative regarding program and activities. Not very personal and misleading in some ways. Disappointed with their ideas and relations as far as education being priority rather than pettiness of excluding a child for bias and presumptions.
I think Center Street is a wonderful school. I especially like the primary teachers who are caring and supportive.
