Most AP classes in the district but no real academic or extracurricular focus. There are just so many things to do and the efforts to provide student activities are overdone. If you attend this school, it'll be hard to stand out and a lot of effort--with the many things to do--goes unrecognized. Sure you won't be bored attending, but it's a lot of work and competitive... It'd be better feeling to attend if the school is known for its specific programs, rather than that it has too many things to do.

I love this school. The teachers and staff are so dedicated and want to help. I really like the block schedule that we have and the alternating classes just help spread out the load. If you talk to the councilors, they will help you choose your classes you need to take.

I'm currently a Sophomore at Franklin. Its a great school for high achieving students. there are lots of AP and Honors courses and many electives. however, there are a lot of students and not many opportunities to get one on one help. the students are not the kindest either. Also, theres a large gap between honors and regular classes, so its not easy to choose anything but honors. there aren't any buses besides public buses and those are overcrowded. its a decent school in my opinion.

Not many rental properties in this school's district. Definitely NOT the school for students with special needs. No honors program for core classes like Biology. If you're from this area you may get along fine, but don't expect quality treatment if you're coming from another district.

Definitely above average. The atmosphere at this school, especially for those students who want to excel, is great. Offering many AP and honors classes, this school is great for students who want to challenge themselves. Not only that, but there are a few key teachers that are very well liked. Other teachers, not so much though.

A decent high school in my opinion. Not the best, it can improve.

This school is simply amazing. The atmosphere is excellent, and the student's drive for academic success is clearly visible.

Good academic record, and a variety of extracurricular activities and clubs for students. Need more programs for student safety.

Franklin High has been a school for its fourth year now, and already has had more principals than its students can count (or care to remember). Academically, Franklin provides a substantial amount of quality classes to choose from, including many honors and AP level courses--most of which are headed by quality teachers who know what they're doing. There is however, a subgroup of subpar teachers among the faculty. (I could name a few who I wouldn't mind to see leaving.) There's a plethora of activities, yet only mild student involvement in them. Safety and discipline is sometimes taken to annoying extremes--the guards outside the joint-shared library often implement ridiculous and questionable rules that show little concern for the safety of students. Overall however, Franklin rates fairly well in comparison to other high schools in the district. Every school has its irksome qualities and flaws; Franklin's aren't anything to worry about.

I'm impressed by this school. I think the principal, Dr. Douglas, is doing an exceptional job in setting the tone of responsibility and diligence; he's visible and personable. All the teachers' I've had the chance to meet have been competent and committed. And by the way, Toby Johnson is a great feeder school. The school is diverse ethnically and racially. I'd love to see greater ethnic/racial diversity in the faculty. I do think there are still some logistics that can be worked out, but they pertain to the school operating at capacity; so, while the traffic flow is improved since the 1st year, it's still an issue; awards nights are lengthy. Overall, I am glad my daughter has had the chance to attend Franklin High School. I really can't comment on the other two criteria (extra-curricular activities & parental involvement).

I believe if you're child is a high achiever, it's probably a great school to attend. I don't believe it offers alot to students that need extra help with sports, or other extracurricular activities. Notification for sports have always been received late before the fall tryouts. I believe that all students should have an opportunity to participate in sports or other activities not only high achievers.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 California used the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students' skills in English language arts and mathematics. The results for grade 10 students taking the test for the first time are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The CAHSEE is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of California. Students must pass all parts of the CAHSEE in order to graduate from high school. If they do not pass it the first time, students have multiple opportunities to retake the test. The goal is for all students to pass both sections of the test.
