I love this school. I have excellent teachers and anytime I have needed help i have gotten it. Also the music teacher is amazing. I love being in band and color guard and this is my first year of high school. So this not a bad school in my opinion.
I was very anxious about my son starting High School here after years of private religious school. I know it is a big football and cheer-leading school and I was concerned about some of the bullying that sometimes goes along with that. The registration I went to was chaotic and his registration got bungled up a bit, then I was really nervous! But the school was ON IT!! They had a great freshman orientation which made my son feel really comfortable and excited about school. The staff was very nice and my son's registration got all ironed out and he is in the honors classes he was looking forward to. The school has a great positive atmosphere and respectful interaction seems to be the norm. They seem to enforce their rules fairly and consistently. There are many great extra-curriculars for the kids and the music teacher is a real dynamo. SO FAR SO GREAT!
I graduated from EGHS and I loved it! The teachers really put an emphasis on leadership and if you want to play sports or get involved with a club, there are a lot of opportunities and encouragement. The school is rich with history and pride and tradition, something I'm not sure many students today have a chance to experience. Go Herd!
Our school continues to grow advanced placement programs and recruits students from all walks of life to take part and succeed in college readiness. In addition, we continue long standing traditions that most modern schools do not: Homecoming parades, float construction etc. We offer award winning programs like Ag and Voc Ed like auto shop that boasts a better than 90% job placement rate. We foster a sense of community, pride, and service.
It's a great school with good academics and clubs. My kids are very involved there. They are the third generation attending EGHS!
This school is so great! I love all the teachers and the students are all really friendly. The school seems to put an emphasis on ensuring that every student had the best chance of succeeding.
This is an older sch in district, but the spirit of the teachers remains in most of them. Some older teachers still teach there, and have lots of experiences & care for the kids. They're more human than sch that rated 10, and only care for being #1 in academic. EGHS has the best teachers in CP Chem, English, & Jap. ('Ratemyteachers.com) Tons of HW but grading are fair. The front staffs have room for improvement. And last, it is really the students who are motivated to study & get the school up in the ladder.
I have not enjoyed the last 2 years I have been here. The school is so run down, but at least they are putting in a new track. The school focuses more on sports than the acedemic program, but when it comes time to do the STAR testing all the teachers are frantic trying to teach you new things that you should have already learned. Most the teachers are really old and should have already been retired. The new vice principle, Mr. Heckmann is pretty much the worst vice principle in the district. The school has gotten too strict, I understand some of the rules, but you don't even get warnings anymore. The ladies in the office are rude and not welcoming. I know it's the best school in the district, but honestly every school in the district is not up to good standards. This school fails. period
This is my last of 8 years having a child in this school. Our challenges have been consistent for all of the 8 years. Teachers (90%) are less than supportive to most kids, demeaning, lazy and have zero people skills. Administration is worse with snobbish attitudes to both parents and students. With my youngest graduating from this school in June, I am excited to be done with them!
My experience with EGHS over the past four years has been one of frustration and in such I am sending my daughter to another school. It seems the teachers do not care about the students. Their standard remark is always they need to pay more attention in class and read the book, you ll figure it out. I think the admin staff is just as bad; they will call you if your child is late; however, they will not call you if a serious matter or crime has been committed. Teachers do not update the online grading reports. This school puts too much emphasis on their sports programs. This is not the same school as ten years ago!
Elk Grove High School has been FANTASTIC! My daughter came from another school in Elk Grove and what a difference a good school and a GREAT Band Director make on a child. The only thing that needs a little more administrative and district office attention is the band/music program. You guys have no idea the talent you have in that program, and you are so 'Blessed' and lucky to have Mr. Sebastian as your director. We, as parents, see all this money going towards the sports programs, I think it's time you all sat down and looked at this wonderful band and their extraordinary accomplishments! What an exciting group of students that need the attention of administration and the district. They've done it all themselves, let's get some help out there folks.!
Great school! My daughter has had incredibles teachers and a wonderful experience so far. I wish the administration would get behind the band/music program more, though. The band program has very little room and no money, except what we fund as a parent booster. It is a bit frustrating for the band kids to be at EVERY football and basketball game, yet they get nothing from the school games for their efforts.
Mrs. Broms is the best English teacher by far at Elk Grove High! Also, Mrs. Summers is a great counselor, she helped me get through all my classes and even graduate!
caring teachers and a campus full of much spirit and kindness!!! best campus ever!!!
Best school in the area. Hands down best teachers, students, sports, environment when I have kids I hope they can attends half the school Elk Grove high is
It's certainly changed but their's really not a better high school in the area. Second best to Pleasant Grove, good luck getting in their though.
Great academic programs designed to assist the remedial student as well as challenge the gifted one. There is a full complement of music, art and sports programs (Thundering Herd Football Team has tremendous community support), and there are a variety of dances and clubs promoting activities. Parental involvement is exceptional, whether it be assisting in the classroom, field trips or being there to cheer for their favorite sports team, the parents of Elk Grove High students are out in force. For a rewarding high school experience for your child and yourself, give extra consideration to Elk Grove High.
Teachers and students are great. They have an excellent academic program
