Our experience with this school was dismal, but that may just be because we had an unhappy teacher. My son was never academically challenged and experienced bullying that was never addressed even when he spoke to his teacher. The grading system was not transparent and he got a B on his final report card although a notice was sent home the previous week with an A as his grade. He felt the teacher "had it out for him" and he had no recourse.
I love the warm feeling of the school and the staff. Its a great school academically as well.
My daughter LOVES her school and is so sad that we are moving to another area. She is reading at a 3rd grade level and is only in 1st grade! Mr Jason Allen is a great teacher.
Disappointed, they could not teach my son to read. I was forced to find private tutors, they have no reading intervention programs.
Wonderful school! Love all the teachers and office staff. peace, joanne mother of 5
Small School. Room for improvement.
Academics are average. They need to challenge some students more. No real GATE program, this should be modified for the kids who could benefit from it. OK with xtra activities, but all after school and for music you have to pay. Lots of parent involvement. Very pleased to see lots of parents turn out for back to school night and other activities. Teachers need to work together and not against one another. They need to help out the rough class rooms and not criticize one another and the students by putting them down. Remember our children learn by example.
My daughter is in 1st grade at Markofer. I am thoroughly impressed with the strong leadership from our principal, the dedication and professionalism from the teachers, and the high level of enthusiasm and participation from parents. I feel she is receiving a well-rounded educational experience. I have worked at many schools in the District and I feel Markofer is definitely amongst the best.
