My son Anthony struggles with autism and is nonverbal he was placed in many autism classrooms with no true progress. When Mrs. Archibald became anthonys teacher as anthonys parents we struggled with the unknown of what's going to happen this year. Will we be told he's too hard to handle he screams to much will he not be cared for to the extent of diaper rashes or jnjuries. Will he not learn any new words or fail to make any progress. Will the teacher defend herself and staff over our child... it's the undue stress a parent with a child with disabilities struggles with daily... I met Mrs. Archibald at an iep she was soft spoken shock our hands and understood our concerns...as time went on I got emails on how my son was doing and ways we could help him at home. I arrived in the classroom unannounced and I was greeted with a smile and a teacher who wanted to chat and see how things were going. No teacher has ever done that no one has ever just treated us like parents and took in our concerns for" Real" what made my real fears fade away was the day Mrs Archibald emailed pictures of my son on his field trip to the pumpkin patch the pictures were amazing and telling... the pictures told us this teachers set aside our sons disabilities and looked at him like any other child enjoying a day at the pumpkin patch. He was gazing at the farm animals and than you see him touch the animal and staring at the animal he was connecting and for our son that's a hard moment to caption but she got it and shared thoses moments with his parents a heart moment that brought us to tears. Not only did she do that she asked about his birthday and if we had any plans for a party at school... we haven't heard that question ever....and anthony is 8 years old... what makes this teacher an A++ is even thoses special moments she managed to teach him songs and skills like potty training staying dry all day he's a happy kiddo and we owe it all to a magnificent teacher who goes beyond her job title to make each and every day count for her special needs kiddos and for that we thank her from the bottom of our hearts! And Anthony thanks her for enduring his good bad and ugly moments he thanks her for not giving up on him like all the others did!
We have been at Markofer for several years and adore the teaching staff, the principal and Jackie in the office ! The entire staff know the children by name, are very personable and the children have thrived in all areas.
My daughter has attended markofer from the beginning and is now in 4th grade. I have been blessed by all of her teachers and have continued to watch her thrive and grow futher. All schools have problems (imperfect world) but as a whole markofer had been great. I still have her 2nd grade teacher in contact with me because she has such a bound with her kids long term. great school
Our experience with this school was dismal, but that may just be because we had an unhappy teacher. My son was never academically challenged and experienced bullying that was never addressed even when he spoke to his teacher. The grading system was not transparent and he got a B on his final report card although a notice was sent home the previous week with an A as his grade. He felt the teacher "had it out for him" and he had no recourse.
