In the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD), students are assigned to schools based on their residence, and there is limited open enrollment at six of the middle schools and five of the high schools. Gifted education services are available for elementary, middle and high school students, and high school students may also attend career-oriented academies. The district has alternative schools for at-risk students and also provides special education services.
Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as "in need of improvement" have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.California has an open enrollment policy, which means your child can attend any school in the district (called intradistrict choice), including charter schools, as long as there is space. Some districts will allow your child to attend a school in a neighboring district (called interdistrict choice).
