When I came in pre-k, I enjoyed it! I am graduating finally, and got into all 3 of my high schools of choice. I scored very well on my HSPT and I have to admit that this was because of the quality of teachers that taught at St. Cyril's. Although it may seem like they can be strict at times, the teachers there have taught me a lot, especially the junior high teachers. Another part I loved about this school was the friends that I made. Some kids I've been friends with in pre-k are friends I still hang out with today! I can also say that there has been nothing crazy going on, like drugs, violence, etc. All the students here, even in the lower grades, are very friendly, and I know almost everyone who goes here. Probably the best part about St. Cyril's is the events that are held here. The carnival that is annually held here is always enjoyable, but I believe that there won't be one this year, for unknown reasons. Many of the former staff have left, and the principals have changed over the past couple of years, but that did not ruin my experience here. Who cares if the principals change? Overall, this school is a good choice!
Just got a new principal, again. She is interim principal until a new one comes in September 2014. So four principals within four years? School is in chaos right now.
St. Cyril is an amazing community and my kids are incredibly happy at the school. I'm pleased with the variety of extracurricular activities that are offered and the family environment that is fostered.
My children are academically and socially successful here. This school shines because of its loving and nurturing culture. Mrs. Pugliese (new VP) is a great addition to our community. She meets the parents and kids' needs and has a very action-driven style of leadership.
St Cyril School has been a wonderful experience for our family. We are grateful for such a strong faith community. Our children are truly enjoying their education here and I highly recommend this school if you are searching for a welcoming catholic community and education for your children.
All I have to say is ask around. You'll get a very honest answer about the smoke and mirrors going on over there. Very sad, as it used to be such a nice school environment. Teachers are great, management leaves a lot to be desired.
The school is a great choice, outside of a few issues. The school has gone through a leadership transfer recently with the introduction of a new Principal. Her style of management leaves a lot to be desired. Having said, if you are willing to spend the time and effort in the participation of your child's education, then this school is for you. This is not a school where you can drop your child off, you need to be involved. This is the key component to your child's developmental success. In respects to the management of the school, it's the families the make the school an ideally nurturing environment . I'm not discouraged by the lack of a dynamic principal, since most of parents are career professionals, we budget our resources and delegate. The fundraisers are endless and mandatory volunteer hours are a component to the parents participation in our community. We gladly open our community to your family, if you seek the same experience.
A large part of what makes this school such a winning experience for our family is the level of attention our kids get on a daily basis. A special shout out to Mrs. Liliana DeCarteret in the C.L.A.S.S. Center who provides individual attention to students who need a little extra help, yet also challenges those who are advanced in order to stimulate them academically. Mrs. DeCarteret is truly a one-of-a-kind gem! Our experience at this school has only been in the lower grades thus far, but I must say that all of the teachers (grades PK-4) have been amazing and caring partners in our children's love of learning, emotional growth, spiritual awareness and academic success. St. Cyril's is truly a special place that our children love to attend each and every day. As parents, we are thankful to be a part of this special community that is like an extended family for us.
One of the best things about St. Cyril is that it is a true community. Our family has made life long friends here. At the same time, my kids are thriving academically, socially and emotionally. They love waking up and going to school here everyday.
This school was the worst experience of my life. I went there since kindergarten and graduated in 2011. The people/parents of the school were very snobby, and rude. It was all about the playdates, and such when we were little and I was always excluded because my family is not as "rich" as others appear to be. The schools teachers were very poor, and I felt as if they really did not care about me. It was hilarious that the previous principal lived 3 minutes away from the school, walked to work, and most ironic, went to school. The old principal there was a joke, he had no drive and was very passive. The principal before him was amazing, my family and I called her "Sarge" because she got the job done and disciplined everyone. I feel as if the school is falling apart right now, a few of the great teacher have left, and now all the 3 last principals are gone from what I have heard. In the 5th grade, we were told "We were not wanted here." My family and I almost called the archdiocese about it. I would avoid this school at all cost, do NOT send your children through so much pain like I went through. I was counting the days until I graduated. Please take this review into consideration.
its ok. the teachers are fun, but some of the rules are hard to follow. i heave been going there for 9 years and its time to shake it up a little. also the head principle is really annoying and no one likes or respects her
St. Cyril is the perfect school for my three kids! My oldest graduated last year and was accepted by Louisville High School, with many thanks to St. Cyril's wonderful teachers. We took our three kids out of public school once we started to notice they weren't getting a good education. Now, all three have caught up and are thriving at this school. The education that my children are getting is outstanding! The parents are encouraged to help out and they do. The schools web site has all the information needed to keep you up to date on the sports, after school programs, events and important school announcements. St. Cyril's was the BEST choice for our kids!
My daughter transfered here from a highly rated public school. While I find the endless fundraisers to be a pain and the requirement of 40 service hours to be excessive, this is a small, lovely school. Character and academics are given the same weight. This makes the school a nurturing environment where bullying isn't tolerated. The homework is spot on. They increase the load as the grades go up. Kids are expected to do their own projects and the long time teachers recognize what is done by kids and what is done by parents. The school is extremely safe, there is a nurse to go to if your child gets sick.Mr. Muir is a highly empathetic leader and always has a smile on his face. My daughter looks forward to going to school each day. The teachers know all the kids. fantastic!
GREAT SCHOOL! best choice we've made so far!! the Principal is the leadership and he does a great job! Results of leadership are evident. The IOWA test results were just posted, and on average every grade score was 1 grade above own grade level and older grades scored 2 above their own grade level! What's that saying?(don't sweat the small stuff)
The teachers do allright. I do have issues with the leadership. I tried to make appoinments to meet principal it was a challange. i don't like the way the afterschool care is handled. I want more hands on.
This is a small community school. Many of the parents went here when they were kids and the grandparents built the school! The children take their studies very seriously and good character is considered equally important to academic success. The principal is super hands-on and involved with the kids. It's a very sweet school.
Having been a parent at this school for 25 years, I have seen many changes. The school continues to just get better and better. The parent involvement is one of it's strongest qualities. The staff is fantastic. It is a very family orientated school.
St. Cyril's is a fantastic school. Our daughter transferred this year from a public school. She absolutely loves it! The teachers, principal, and entire staff are wonderful and very supportive. It is a great environment with excellent academics. Plenty of opportunities for athletics and varied extracurricular programs. Parents are very involved. I do not have enough words to express how grateful we are to have our daughter there.
There is a high level of parent involvement at this school. Our kids LOVE attending St. Cyril's. There are a lot of extra-curricular activities for the kids to participate in after school.
