My son has gone here since kindergarten. I love this school, test scores are 2nd highest in Escondido! The staff is amazing...
Acadmeically, the school is mid-range. The basics are promoted, but it's the state-standards everyone is concerned with - to the detriment of nearly everything else. As parents, we felt the state standards were too harsh, and the children and curriculum bent towards meeting those standards to a degree that most children struggle to keep up or retain what they've learned, yet they're still promoted at year end. (?!) The principal routinely contacts parents via a recorded hotline which dials out to the parents for every open house, fund raiser or community-level event. It's a nice touch.
My daughter attended Conway from Kindergarten to 3rd grade until the new boundary changes. Due to this and now in the 4th grade I have placed into a local private school which I see a big differance in many areas. Conway was good but the staff and it's teachers could have done more for their students. Now with my daughter in a private school I see how much of a big differance in how they teachers are concerned for all their students and the staff is so warm and welcoming. My daughter has always done well in school with no less the a B, but wow is school she attends so much better and I am pleased I made the change. I can say that Mrs. Crum and Mr. Pyle @ Conway were the best teachers but others could have done better along with staff.
While I believe the new principal is doing her best, I do not agree with Mr. Smith being missed, he was a poor administrator and did nothing to make the school safer or better for the students. Mrs. Clark is very involved in the academics of the students and hopefully the scores will improve.
Overall, Conway is an average school with a dedicated staff. The Principal, Mr. Ron Smith, will be missed as he was a great administrator and leader for the school. He will be leaving after the 2003/2004 school year to head a brand new school in the district. The school has only average API scores compared to the other schools in the district and it has the potential to increase those scores.
