This school has children whose parents care about their learning. From the amazing principal all the way to the students...everyone learns respect, that adults are here to help, and most of all a passion for learning more and more. The school has never focused on test scores yet their scores continue to prove the quality of this program.

I couldn't get my child out of OVO fast enough! The total lack of respect the kids have for other students and adults is unbelievable. The practice of students addressing teachers, faculty, and parents by their first names is just the beginning. The very expensive field trips are being subsidized to over 1/3 of the families by the other families, this would be ok if these 1/3 were lower income families, not so! The parents "involvement" is more like a social club instead of any actual classroom help. The expectations of the students is low compared to other schools in the district. I only hope the damage done to my child doesn't set her back too much at her new school.

Our school should be the new model for all schools. It is based on parent involvement and hands on learning- our kids know why you need to learn all that stuff! Parents are such an integral part that we are able to model community involvement and show that everyone can learn and has something to teach. People are unique, kids are people too!

Our daughter has been in kindergarten for three and a half months so far and we are very happy we chose Orangevale. Lots of field trips, lots of hands on learning, lots of FUN so kids can't wait to keep learning. Kinder teachers are great!

I attended OV from 5th grade with Kathy Foster (fantastic teacher) to 8th with Pete, Jim, Sharon, and Reni (also fantastic). I was there for both campuses and have to say I loved them both. My class was so close we were family! and the after school drama productions were some of my best memories. The Principal and teachers are so great compared to the other school I have attended, its outstanding! The middle school experience was so much better then all the other horror stories I heard from other Junior Highs (Carnigie). I have such great memories and friends I took away from that school, if someday I have children I hope to find a school for them as great as OV.

Orangevale Open School picks up where others lack. There are many acitivities offered to the students such as drama, music, and art. Yes, there are some fees associated with this, but you do get what you pay for and Orangevale Open is top notch. They have plays every year where students are encouraged to be a part of. The field trips are very much hands on. Every childs' individual strengths are concentrated on. Sometimes I think my husband and I enjoy the school activities as much if not more than my daughter and she loves them! She is entering her second year at this school for fifth grade and this is the first time she is actually looking forward to going back to school. she is constantly asking me when she GETS to go back to school! What more could a parent as for??!!!

OVO is a great school for children who are conformist. If you have a child with talents that lay outside the scholastic realm, don't expect them to be fostered here. I refer to scientific, sports or art related abilities. There are no art classes, no sports teams and no science fairs like you had when you were a kid. Competition is discouraged in any form. While some feel this is a good thing, those of us with real life experience know that competition is a given. Learning to win and lose well is a valuable character trait. They don't learn it here. My child won awards for his artwork while at his previous school and came home w/ paintings and sculptures. He had a love for music and art. None of this is recognized at this school. If any of this is important to your child look elsewhere.

We've put both our daughters through Orangevale Open, and we've been extremely pleased year in and year out. The faculty and administration are extremely dedicated. Teachers are devoted to the students and, other than a few rare exceptions, the instruction is top notch. The curriculum's reliance on an almost-Montessori style of involvement, the use of really great field trips and the emphasis on parental participation make this school a must for any family eager to see their children get a fulfilling education -- and for parents who want to take a roll in that process.

Orangevale Open has been a fantastic school for my 5-year old. She loves having an older mentor at the school and the creativity of the curriculum. The numerous fieldtrips (average about two a month) are a bonus too!

I am a former student at Orangevale Open. I attended the previous campus from kindergarten to eigth grade. I think it is an excellent school and would want all of my children to go there as well. Probably the best part of it is all of the hands-on learning experience, and you won't find better teachers anywhere else.

I am a student in middle school at Orangevale Open. This school has been my home since second grade and I'll be sad to leave next year. Second grade through this year i have never had a bad teacher. All the teachers are encouraging, nice, and very reasonable. I feel like this school has taught me many life lessons larger middle schools can't offer. And it's those important life lessons such as integrity that will really help in the real world.

Absolutely fantastic and our new campus is perfect for our school. The parent involvement really demonstrates dedidcation and creates a wonderful learning environment. Use of technology could and should be improved if and when better equipment becomes available.

I attend Orangevale for middle school. I thought it was a great school, but when I started I hated it. There is practically no discipline. One time, a girl's cell phone rang in science and the teacher took no action! A lot of the kids are rude and don't have good logic and life skills. There are no good electives. I am new to his school and they expect me to know everything about it (rules, what the teachers expect, etc.). We constantly get e-mails from the school asking for money. Why are they so helpless as to ask for money every two weeks? A lot of the children that attend this school are spoiled and get away with everything. Orangevale's discipline is highly lacking. If I had children, I would never send them to this school

Great school, especially for creative children who get bored at traditional school settings and love science and hand's on learning. High expectations for behavior from students. I am sorry language is not available as it is in the East at many schools as it is easier to learn language before the age of 12, but that is a funding issue. California schools have many finding issues and no longer have buses, school nurses or enough money for supplies. Luckily, most parents at Orangevale Open are great and help the school tremendously. My child loves it. Especially the very frequent field trips, including over-nighters. This year she goes to the Redwoods for two nights. Be prepared for lots of parent meetings, volunteer hours and know that the teachers are called by their first names. If you don't like those ideas, go somewhere else. We like it that way and love our school.

I can say as a parent who has had children in other elementary schools that Orangevale has earned my respect. They do insist on parental involvement and I think that is the key to a schools success. I have worked in classrooms and have been involved in presenting curriculum. I know that all the teachers that I have been exposed to are concerned about first a child s safety, before, during and after school. Secondly their focus seems to be on their happiness and security with their education and surroundings. Because my child is just in 3rd grade, the real push to refine in detail his work has not been so apparent. I look forward to my son s interest in his own development. All in all I believe I chose correctly.

The teachers' level of commitment to education at Orangevale Open is phenomenal. Many grade levels offer after school homework club led by teachers and volunteer parents. My children have never been turned down when asking for extra help from their teachers. Also, a wealth of extracurricular activities are available at this unique K-8th grade school. In addition, the level of parent involvement is extremely high at Orangevale Open which I believe makes this school unique. This, and extraordinary teachers are what accounts for this schools' high level of success.

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
