Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

It's a quaint little school in our neighborhood and my daughter loves it. She transitioned here from a private school and she likes Hemlock better than the private school. I will keep my kids here as long as they are being challenged, learning, and happy.

This used to be a great school. However, since a new principal arrived, things have changed dramatically. She does not address problems of any sort. If a problem is brought to her she blames either the child or the parent, or ignores it entirely. She does not listen to the experience or observations of the parent. She does not seek solutions at all. Many parents have transferred their children out since she has arrived. Very sad to see since there are some great teachers and kids at this school.

We had a poor experience. About 4 years ago our first son attended this school in the first grade. His teacher was new and didn't know how to work with our son, not the mold, introvert, very smart, and basically really board in class. She basically made him out to look like a problem child, a bad kid, and like a teacher would act towards a bully. We would get notes home all the time, believe she even got the principal involved. Yes we would talk to our child, be very stern, this was not acceptable for him to talk in class or outwardly showing his board-em and do our best to drive it home with him our family values, to listen to his teacher and get good grades. Believe me, we are not those type of parents that our child can do no wrong. At this point he hated school. After a teacher conference she attended she separated kids into groups depending on their academic levels, he was with advanced kids. For what seemed most of the school year he was a problem and for the rest he was all of an sudden advanced, doing just fine now...?? The next year we enrolled him in Etiwanda District,Solorio, he was admitted to GATE program and STAR test have been advanced for the past 3 years.

3 of my children have gone through Hemlock Elementary from Kindergarten on through 5th grade. The teaching staff, office staff, volunteers and the Principal are Absolutely the Best around! My children have been given the best start to their education! If I lived in Etiwanda or Rancho Cucamonga, I would drive my children to Hemlock each day knowing they are in the Best school! I would fully recommend Hemlock Elementary to any person anytime for their childs education!

The teachers care about my child's progress. The staff sees my child as an individual instead of a number the way the state and federal governments see her. The staff and the parents work TOGETHER!

This is a GREAT school for our children as well for us as parents. Very happy with this school I had my little sister start this school since kinder and now she's a 6th grader, she attended Hemlock from kinder-5th grade never had any problems. The teachers were EXCELLENT. Sister is a very smart girl and hemlock had alot to do with it. I now have my little girl attenting this school as well she's been there since kinder and now i 1st grade and i couldn't ask for a better school than HEMLOCK! Soon my son will be attending as well.

My child has been going to Hemlock Elementary since first grade and overall I have been very happy with the school. The teachers have been great providing wonderful learning experiences for my child. They are very accessible and pleasant. The children love their teachers, especially Mrs. Staples, Ms. Gelsimino, Mr. Rager, Mrs. Rehkop, and Mrs. Robinson. From my personal experience, these teachers love their job and it shows in their attitude and the way the kids respond to them. The principal, Mr. Mullins, is very visible on campus and very proactive. Children and parents alike go up to him and easily start up a conversation while he intently listens with respect which he highly emphasizes. I do wish the GATE program met more often. Also, Hemlock Elementary has an active PTA that has been very successful in meeting the needs of students, teachers, and parents.

Not only do I work at Hemlock, but my grandchildren are students there. We came two years ago and the experience was wonderful. My grandson's academics improved and so did his attitude. Mr. Mullins is a great principal and always available to any parent or student. The teachers are the most caring people I have ever come across. It is truly a 'Distinguished School'.

I am extremely satisfied with the caliber of education provided by Hemlock Elementary. My children transferred during an awkward time (mid January) and I was hesitant of how the 'new school' was going to transition my children in a least impactful manner with my children's academia. I am proud to say that every administrator and teacher (I have 2 children in 1st and 3rd grade),proved to be very efficient in absorbing my children into the natural environment of Hemlock. My children love their new school and as an advocate for my children,I can say I am a satisfied parent. Claudia Rios-Chavez

I have worked as a substitute teacher at Hemlock and it definately one of my very favorite schools. Super friendly and caring staff, Great and very involved principal, and wonderful well behaved kids. I was also impressed with how well all classes can read and all have great respect for all of the staff. I have worked at 30+ school and Hemlock is one of the best!
