The front office staff... feels like they are DMV employees....I don't think the receptionist EVER smiles....it's the strangest ambiance ever

RE: "It's very sad how..." Your suggestion that teachers and principal "cover up accountability" and keep passing along students is preposterous and insulting to BIES teachers who get there early, stay late, and "go to the mat" for their students everyday. Perhaps you should independently assess your child's ability and adjust your expectations.

It's very sad how the principal and the teachers cover up their lack of accountability at the expense of the student and just keeps passing them along and doing the bare minimum or doing the work for them. Senior fifth grade teacher doesn't listen, communicate or hold student accountable. PATHETIC!

My daughter is in 1st grade at BIES and I feel incredibly grateful that we were able to transfer into it (Audubon is our neighborhood school). We feel so fortunate to have had the most amazing Kindergarten teacher last year. She was such a hands-on, interested, fun, engaging, balanced teacher and I couldn't have asked for anyone better for my daughter. This year she has an equally great teacher. I am happy as can be with the school and it's teaching staff//education standards//parent involvement.

My son is in kindergarten this year and we love this school so much. His teacher is well-qualified, loves her students, balances arts and academic and is very creative. My son enjoys his teachers and friends so much. I feel lucky to be part of this school and the class. It's a small school but every one has so warm and close connection. It's like a family. Highly recommended!!!!

My son attended the first year the new principle was installed. There was a problem with one of the male teachers inviting some of the boys out to the movies despite repeated admonishments. The principle did everything she could to defend the teacher. She was in total denial. She ended up with egg on her face when the teacher went AWAL and just up and disappeared one day. She was on the wrong side of that fence. Her judgment was horrendous. The potential damage of her inability to deal with a wayward teacher could have been enormous. It ruined some kids' year there. I hope she learned a lot from that.

I m not too impressed with this school or the teachers. My son is in kindergarten so I don t know a lot of the staff, but I will say his teacher (while she seems qualified as a teacher) seems uninterested in my son as a person, disorganized, and generally detached and snappy. I m okay with her teaching ability but very disappointed with the personal relationship she s made (or rather has not made) with my son. As a whole, whenever I am on campus, I don't see many teachers with a smile on their face.

Although this school still can afford pretty good PE and music program, it all comes down to the teachers. This year we got a non-communicative, not interested and weird lady who should not teach any more. I am very very sorry.

We have been highly impressed by the dedication, sensitivity and communication skills of our son's kindergarten teacher. The Principal has also been pro-active with communication and facilitating a strong start for our son and we really appreciate it.

We moved our son (5th grade) from a private school to BIES in 2009. We are extremely pleased with the support that his teacher, the Principle, and the staff provide. Our son demonstrates his initiative to help the school community and enjoys all activities including academic growth and stimulations. Since he is attending this school, he is more motivated and experiencing a great school life in a diversified environment.
