Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Love this school! Don't be fooled by the rating, the school is great for our kids because the teacher to class size is ideal where your child is not just a number but the teachers actually know them by name. The teachers are terrific here as they provide the kids with more care than the other more highly rated schools. Also the other parents are down to earth and friendly. The only slight negative I've had is sometimes the teachers give too much homework.

There is so much violence in this school and there are occasions where police has been involved. It is no secret. They also don't address bullying.

I love sending my son to this school! This is not our home school but I don't have a plan to change him to his home school because we all love this school their way of teaching and the way of behaving with parents!

My son is attending this school from the mid of 1st grade. Teachers are smart, kind and attentive. I hope he will learn a lot at the second grade level. He enjoys every day at that school!

My daughter is in the Spanish Immersion Program. I think Vallejo Mill is a wonderful school. There is great parent involvement and the teachers are as dedicated as any anywhere. I compare it favorably to other supposedly 'higher-rated' schools in the area.

My son was overloaded here when we moved from So. Cal and it was a shock to me.. he came in kindergarten. His teacher would forget that they had a library day, no homework would come home since the printer was broken, didn't have any graduation .. I could go on and on.. the teacher discouraged parent volunteer and ofcourse didn't have enough time to get things done.. at the end of kindergarten atleast 40% of the kids could n;t read numbers or above 20 or read properly. I am very disappointed with the time he spent. I would say some daycares are better in what they do with the kids. :-(. The principal was never around.. for the time my child went there, I never saw or heard from the pricipal

My school is great, kids love it! The teachers care about the kids. PTA did a great job getting community volunteers to construct a new playground! The oncoming PTA is a very dedicated group of people and will continue to help the school thrive! I'd say to prospective parents to give this school a try and be active on PTA.

I love the school. The atmosphere here is very friendly and kid helpful. Teachers are always willing to talk when you need them. Both my children are in the Spanish Immersion program. I got to give credit to the Immersion teachers for enriching my children lives. This school makes it fun to learn and despite their score, they are providing a solid academic foundation for my children. Thank you.

I moved out of the school district and put my kids into another School in Fremont (Parkmont). I must say I really miss Vallejo Mill School. The teachers were better, the facilities were better, and I miss the one on one teacher to student interaction at Vallejo that I don't see at our school. The ratings say that Parkmont ranks higher but I wish it had that old grade school feeling Vallejo Mill did. Maybe it would have been a little easier on me here if the parents were a little nicer at Parkmont.

I LOVE the office staff Marilyn and Patricia. I LOVE all the teachers we have had since my eldest has been there. Mrs. Stroschein is a great Kinder teacher. Mrs. Poole is a very good 1st and 2nd grade teacher depends on her yearly assignment. This year we will have Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Correia. (sp?). The principal is okay. But she is LUCKY to have a great office staff and awesome teachers!! I volunteer a lot in the classroom and sometimes in the office. The test scores may not be super high, but I prefer teacher quality vs. numbers. I believe that as long as you are a involved at school whether from home, at school, in office, or in classroom is the major factor in your kid(s) succeeding in any school.

My daughter is in 1st Grade and she loves to go to school. Every morning she is excited to start her day in her class because her teacher Ms. Poole makes daily activities so interesting. My daughter is lucky to have her as her teacher. All the office staff are so friendly and courteous.

My daughter has been in Vallejo Mill Elementary for about one and half years, now in Grader 3. She is so happy with teacher Mrs. Ng in Grader 2 and Mrs. Ransom in Grader 3. The staff in the office are so nice and friendly; always smile, helpful, answer all questions whenever walking in or on the phone, not like other highly rated schools in the same district.

I completely agree with the previous post. As a parent the first thing you deal with when you enroll your child is the staff in main the office. They were outstanding, respectful and very friendly. You get treated with dignity and respect unlike the staff at a nearby school where my child was overloaded from. Few of the safety patrol volunteers were rude and disrespectful. We all wants the children to be safe but you have to learn how to address human beings or that is not the job for you. I would love to see the school works on improving their API score. I think it is a very friendly environment and good school for my child.

My Son is very happy , safe and loved in Vallejo Mills. Adventure Time teachers are also very good. I heard so many things (mostly not ture) about this school that when I was told that my child is overloaded to Vallejo Mills I got panic. I wanted to enroll him in some private school, but before doing that I thought of meeting his teacher. To my surprise I found this school located at very peacful spot and the teacher -Ms Gould was so good to me and my child that I decided to continue my kid in the same school. If you go to the office in Vallejo Mills you consistently get a good treatment unlike in few other schools. For me it's very important that my child is safe and happy and also in environment where he can thrive. I recommend Vallejo Mills as such place.

My daughter is in her second year at Vallejo Mill, but in her first year of the Spanish language immersion program. We are very pleased with the school thus far - the teachers are excellent, as far as I can see from my daughters experiences in kindergarten and first grade. Best of all, she is getting a solid, balanced education, and (like the poster below wrote) is not going to school just to compete for the highest grade or test score like in some of the 'higher rated' Mission schools. Very pleased with this school!

Vallejo Mill is an excellent school that is too often judged in comparison to the schools with off-the-charts STAR scores. Elementary schools in Fremont have become ridiculously competitive for the children, focusing solely on the scores of one standardized test instead of on a well-rounded education including a balance between academia and extra-curricular. Vallejo Mill teachers are fantastic, and it is truly an ethnically diverse campus. We wanted our child around true diversity, and to have a solid education without the pressure and stress to compete with other kids to see who's best or smartest. Vallejo Mill is a great school, don't count them out!

My kid came as an overloaded student to this school. She finished her kinder and first grade here. Initially we were so worried to send her to this school cos our home school is in mission district. We were so worried about this schools's API score. But to our surprise she got very good kindergarten and first grade teachers,Mrs. Leon and Mrs. Zimmerman.Mrs. Leon gave her extra work in class and also at home as she was ahead in academics. They took so much effort in academic programs and their involvement in their job is so great. They are so friendly to kids and at the same time disciplined them so well. Now we moved to our home school in the middle of this year. Academically she is same as other kids in this school. Thanks to her teachers at Vallejo Mill for their great job.

This school was a miserable experience for us. With the exception of a wonderful Kindergarden teacher and a good first grade teacher. The principal at this school is so wrapped up in the Spanish program that she neglects the needs of other students, it is most likely a great program, but it is too bad that the needs of other children are neglected. The teachers are severly out numbered with kids who have severe 'behavior' issues.

Some of the best teachers have changed grade levels, so its hard to evaluate by grade. 4 of the 23 classrooms are combo classes with 2 different grades. Each grade level has a bilingual English-Spanish class. 1st and 5th grades have many students with discipline problems, which affects instruction and the learning of other students. The afterschool band program has an excellent director, but only meets once weekly. Boys' & girls' basketball teams started in 2003-04. No other school sponsored extra activities. Due to the demographics of the school, most families are dual income, creating fairly low parent involvement. There are a few parents that help in classrooms or 'do it all', but the majority of teachers do not even have a Room Parent to help them.
