My daughters have only 5 months in Durham and it had been a good experience, teachers are very committed with kid's education and the principal is great!! She is involved in everything that happen in her school
I was little skeptical when i put my son in KG - but it turned out that im totally wrong in my assumptions based just on the test score. Im very appreciative of both my son's class teacher and the school principal. Im glad my son had Mrs. Huff as his teacher and Ms. Teresa Bonaccorsi. Durham received "The California Distinguished School" - what more do you expect from a school. Check ou http://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/Domain/691 and every word is true. Go Eagles - Durham Eagles ... Proud Parent of a KG student promoted to 1st Grade.
Teacher provide individual attention to kids. School management seems very organized and proactive. My son has thrived here.
The school has too many student ration to 1 teacher. Therefore the students do not get appropriate attention for learning purposes. Classrooms are uncontrollable and some teachers have been known to yell and hit students!
My children are going into their second school year at Durham and we have all been quite happy with the school. Most of the teachers at Durham are very friendly and seem genuinely interested in the success of their students. I think with more parent participation and community involvement, Durham has the potential to become an even better school.
My son has attended Durham since 2nd grade and his understanding and knowledge of things are awesome. I really admire his teachers drive to push the kids to succeed. The teacher is consistent and their's results. Durham made some necessary changes and I think it has become a great school over the years.
I love this school. The Principal and teachers are very helpful and understanding.
My daughter attend Summer School here and I tell you the communication and curriculum are absolutely amazing. Fortunately my daughter has increased her awareness and knowledge, due to the short time at Durham. This into comparison to her regular school [remain nameless] is such a high appreciated factor. I hope in the future that the Staff and Principle of Durham can advocate for other Fremont Unified Schools. It would be well deserved for both parties.
WOnderful teachers and principal! My child has attended Durham since grade 1 and has done very well.
I have two kids that go to Durham elementary and I have seen alot of progress since the beginning of the year. My kids told me they are happy at Durham elementary and like their teachers and friends.
My child started attending the Durham Elementary school this year (2007-2008). We have a new principal and she is great. The principal is on top of every single task at this school, this is a five star since she has years of experience as a teacher and principal and she is guiding the school into a positive path. Her vision for Durham Elementary School is to make sure our children have all the opportunities for learning, school safety, and nurturing and caring environment. she is a true leader when it comes to help parents and staff to play a positive role on our children's education. She is open and understanding and rewards every one who takes a positive step in school affairs. Since she has been a principal at Durham every one can witness the positive changes within our school structure. I am sure with her guidance in a near future Durham Elementary school will be among the best in Fremont. in terms of safety Durham follows the basic safety regulations and everyday group of parents and staff are there for every child making sure they are safe and happy. The teachers are the best and very enthusiastic to teach our children everything they know for that grade level. in terms of parents communication The PFC (Parent Faculty Club) plays an important role. Every Parent at Durham school helps and is involved. some parents donate their time as volunteers and some donate their time or money out side of school. The school is planning a Website Re-construction and very soon we are going to have a brand new web-site. Generally speking Durham Elementary School is striving toward academic excellence for every child. As a parent at Durham Elementary School I am so greatful for all the professionalism, wisdom, openness and care that our principal provides to every parent.
The overall performance of the school has been consistently dropping over the years. The school's website is not helpful, teachers do not have their web pages, teachers do not respond to emails and communication is poor. I have not received any tests or graded tests for my child in science and have absolutely no idea as to how to help my child at home.
This is my second year dealing with Durham and it is only worse this year. I am really dissappointed. You get very little education here, not enough to even compare to other kids who have better opportunities.
Hardworking and experienced teachers! Lots of extracurricular activities like music, scrabble, READ program. Parents need to involve more. Overall great school!
My children are engaged, and enthusiastic about learning. The teachers as a whole are very caring and concerned with the education of the children. There are some new teachers who are still learning, but the effort to excel is there.
Our daughter is attending the kindergarten (morning class#2), and there are only 3 English speaking students (including my daughter) in the class. We are not sending our daughter to an American elementary school to learn Spanish, so we requested a transfer to the English speaking class and haven t heard back from the principal yet. I don t think we are getting the transfer so we are going to move to a better school district, good luck parents!
My daughters attended Kindergarten here and had Mrs. V. Richards. She is a wonderful teacher and she had my girls reading before school let out for the summer! That just amazed us. They just loved to go to school everyday! Also our experience with Ms. A. Rubio was excellent! She has impressed my daughters enough that all three have expressed an interest in taking Spanish Immersion classes in the future. Also the speech therapist was wonderful!
I have a child entering 2nd grade at Durham this year- the last two years there have been a mix of good and bad. I hope they get it together and realize the potential of these kids!
I have had a very good expirence with Durham Elementary. Mrs. Bains, my daughters kindergarten teacher has been a Godsend. She is a wonderful teacher, a kind and caring woman and a one of a kind teacher. I also love the YMCA onsite center.
