INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Yes, this is a great school! Great teachers; I guess. I am new to the school so I can only speak for my child's teacher and she is great. What is really good about the school are the PARENTS. GREAT PARENTS!

It is like one big family. Parents are involved in every activity starting from helping with controlling the traffic during school hours, helping teachers in class and correcting homework. It has a close teacher-parents relationship.

Great school my kids love the school. It contains nice teachers protective yard duties, and wonderful shows. On the last Wednesday of the month, they have a assembly with different shows every time it seems. this school also has a Friday show, as my kids tell me, witch happens every Friday. On the show, they tell the latest news, weather, and other interesting stuff. Overall its a very good school. I would recommend this school to anyone

I have 2 kids @ FP and am overall happy with the education they're receiving here. BUT I'm appalled at the ban of rolling back packs (on black top & school grounds) that the previous principal imposed (and then LEFT after imposing this ban which our poor kids are now STUCK WITH). She was awful in hearing parent's concerns. This was and IS still a big concern. My 5th grader has to struggle with 25lbs every morning and afternoon lugging his un-rollable rolling backpack either by lifting it and carrying it or on his shoulder. We may have had incidental minor accidents w/ kids not handling their rolling bpks properly last yr but now we WILL HAVE 900+ kids with broken spines and backs as they grow. These are formation yrs, it's imp to TEACH, to EDUCATE our kids (and punish if they don't obey the rules) not BAN!!

I have two kids attending the school. I echo the words of the other parent. The current principal does not have the skills to manage the school. The school used to have a very good GATE program. Its mandarin immersing program was a pioneer in the area. Those two programs have been on a downward spiral since her arrival. Those two programs are ineffective now, and many good teachers have left. It is quite common that the materials in standard CA curriculum are not being taught at school. Parents will have to closely monitor what have been taught at school, and to work very hard to cover the lose ground.

Teachers are wonderful in this school. I have two kids enrolled in FP and they are happy learning in FP. I agree however with one of the previous parent from this Review that the principal in FP could have managed the school better if she had paid more attention on the kids or simply listen to majority of the parents prior to make important decisions that could impact all the children in FP. The rolling backpack ban is an example. The principal just made the decision without any explanantion to parents. She seems completely have no idea about the weight that a fifth grade student's backpack could be prior to annoucing the ban, and also refused to go through a better decision making process e.g., through a vote.

Forest Park was an outstanding school before the arrival of the current principal. It is a school above average now. The principal is the factor for my downgrading. The current principal is lack of leadership skills, and she is not willing to accept inputs from parents. One of the most recent instance is that she has made her decision of banning the use of the rolling backpacks without seeking inputs from parents and students. When parents confront her decision, she simply ignores parents' opinion and refuses to take a survey or vote on the issue. Parents' involvement is the most important factor for the high test score of the school.

I am a teacher at the intermediate level at Forest Park School and I have been in this field for a great many years. I have never worked at a facility where the teachers work so well together. There is an incredible family/team atmosphere among the teachers here. It is a great mix of veteran and new teachers with each teacher contributing to the overall success of this school. I am very proud to say that I am a teacher at Forest Park Elementary ( a twice recognized state distinguished school and a federal blue ribbon school). I am also very impressed with the community support that we receive. We have an incredible PTA and a wonderful parent volunteer program. A child will leave Forest Park well prepared for the middle school experience.

My daughter is very happy at F.P. and her grades are better than ever. Office Secretary is very rude, but all other staff is friendly. Parents are very involved and it is a high standard school, but I would not want my child to attend any other school. All my child's teachers have been great and look out for her best interest. I wish more schools were like this.

My daughter has attended this school from K through 3rd grade. Her second grade teacher was the best teacher in the way of relating to students and motivating them to do their personal best that we've heard of. He and the office staff went out of there way to be helpful to our family. All of the teachers in this school seem to care and be very professional and are friendly. The PTA and the teachers need to work more closely together but that is a small problem I think. Parents are very competetive and the school is hard to get into are minor problems overall.

I am happy that my daughter is at Forest park. The teachers care for the children, are committed educators, and do their job well. The parent community is active, and the general ambience is academic. I wish one saw the Principal around the hallways more, taking an active ineterest in the instruction within classrooms, and she was more visible to the children.

A very good school though once you join it, you wonder how the school maintains good ratings. The instruction is just above average. Nothing unique, since I have seen more rigorous instruction style at schools with lower ratings. The good ratings may simply be due to the composition of the student community.

Great school with very low drop out rates. Most students are very studious. The crime rate in the area near school is very low. The safe neighbourhood as well. This school has very consistent record. Might be difficult to get in elementary school if you lived there for a short time only.

We are very impressed with Forest Park School. The teachers really care and pay special attention to each child (haven't had a teacher yet that didn't). The office staff is quite friendly and helpful as well. The school seems like a family and everyone works together. The parent involvement is outstanding and with the many diverse cultures at Forest Park, the children and the parents all seem to work together very well. The API scores are outstanding and they seem to just get better and better each year.

Forest Park boasts excellent parent support for its well-trained, hard-working teachers. They have been able to staff a variety of free or low cost after school activities because of parent involvement. They have a Mandrian enrichment program that children can start or leave any year starting from Kindergarden through sixth grade. The physical facility is well-maintained. I have also been impressed by how polite the kids are as you pass them on the street. As a result of its reputation for academic excellence and its awards, many families move to the area. They are surprised to discover that many students are overloaded each year to other schools until space becomes available...sometimes not until the next year or later. I have loved this school and will be sad to move.

I have three children in Forest Park and I must say that the parent/teacher involvement is excellent. I live across the street from this school and I love it. The standards of teaching is somewhat similar to a private school. Fremont Unified School district is excellent. In spite of all the cutbacks, Forest Park Elementary still kept their after school Band Program available to their students this year. My children also participates in the bilingual program and it is excellent. The teachers/staff are great (very involved with the students) It's the best elementary school A+.
