I love the neighborhood, like the fact that my daughter likes going to the school. Very well organized drop off and pick up of kids. Environment feels very secure. I wish parents would ease off on the pressure. Let the kids enjoy childhood.
My son is in 4th grade in fall 2012. We have had good experience so far! His class teachers varied in their teaching skills from grade to grade. So far, my son had his best experience in 3rd grader teacher!
I am a student here. My teacher, Mrs. Allred, is the best ever!! She keeps us very entertained, while giving us a good 6th Grade education. Thank you Gomes and Mrs. Allred!!!
Great parent teacher involvement for the benefit of shcool and the child!! Love this school!!
I love our school because we (teachers, staff, parents, students) know how to rally behind a great cause, educating all in the process. We've been successful with green initiatives, perpetuating a strong team spirit, and this year working together to roll out the new Everyday Math program to students.
This school is not perfect. The teachers don't have to be very good, as long as the parents make sure that kids are well-fed, tutored and have extracurricular activities. Never underestimate the advantages of most children coming from a 2 parent home, often with a grandparent in residence. The majority of parents are college-educated professionals. Yes, it is competitive but there is high parental involvment and children come to school prepared to work hard and excell.
It is an awesome school, with very high standards. The school has great teachers and a friendly enviroment fuilled with wonderful students. All thre of my children went to Gomes, and the loved it. They say it was their best part in school. I am a parent, and vonlunteer at Gomes many time, and it was a fantastic experience( that i will remember forever).
Parents and students are driving up the API, not the teachers. Some teachers just point at everything negative they can find in your kid. They are suppose to guide and help students succeed. Success at this school comes from parents and kids. Principal leadership, I should say is 1. He is always hiding behind the door. Doesn't want to get involve at all in any community service at Gomes. He is not there for the students interest, but for himself. You will find other good schools in Fremont that will have good teachers and principal. When administrative fails, teachers fail!. This is clear in this school. Good luck if you are planning on attending this school
I love Gomes not because of its high score or excellent academic programs. Rather I love it because a) my kids (2nd and 6th graders) enjoy the school and their friends so much, b) their teachers are very personable, c) the kids are fun to be with, and d) the parents are participating in many fun activities. A lot of folks here seem to think that these kids are pressured into producing high scores. I'd like to think that such a great environment fosters healthy and fun kids. The score and other academic achievements would then just come naturally.
As someone who grew up under tons of pressure to excel academically, I find the school to unbalanced for the well being of my child. Not enough extra curricular activities or time to discover things on your own. I am trying to teach my child not to become an automaton that memorizes and spits out an answer to standarized test. It is not easy .
I have been a parent of this school for over 14 years. It has consistently been a great school for academics, diversity, cultural awareness, and character building.
This school is really good.Having the best testing scores in the district, this school will be the best for all the other students. This school is all around better,by also having some sports programs like the basketball team. This school also has a band, which will help the students increase their talents. This school will probably do everything they could do to help their students. This school is the best!
This school has been unnecessarily over-rated. I find some school(s) in the Fremont Unified school district much much better including excellent teachers at some locations.
This school is so over rated. Most of the achievements came from student's and parent's effort. Not necessary has anything to do with the quality of this school.
My kids love going to school and are eagerly awaiting the first day, this is a testament to the teachers and the dedication they have to the kids. My son's 5th grade teacher was wonderful!! and she really made the hard work seem enjoyable. We have been to other schools in the Fremont Unified district and without a doubt Gomes stands head and shoulders above the rest. Schools need the involvement of parents and the parents at Gomes are as committed to the success of this school/students as the staff.
The school is really good. Teachers are excelent and principal very active.
I wouldn't take my son out of this school for anything! Can you say that you love your child's school? I can!
I have a child going to 4th grade at Gomes. Great school. Balanced focus on academics and extracuricular activities. Steady stream of home work and projects that not only builds academic knowledge but creativity. The teachers seem to be experienced and very competent. The events and activities are well organized. The parent involvement is good. They routinely devote time as well money in support of the science lab and other activities not covered by the state budget.
Top test scores. High pressure, tons of homework. The principal is weak but most of the teachers are excellent. Lots of science and chess activities, little emphasis on the whole child.
