Very impressive school and student body. Highly motivated and dedicated students and some terrific teachers as well esp. the band director who is exceptional. The band program is outstanding. If your child likes music, Hopkins is the place. It's a rigorous school but your child will be well-prepared for any college.
This school is the best. Expecially Conway. He is the awesomest conductor EVER!!!!! GO HAWKS!!!!!
Great school. Some of the teachers are legends. One even gives you a t-shirt if you ace one of his tests (which is pretty rarely.) When the old principal, Leesa Jack, passed away, we got a nice principal and a very cool vce principal. Unfortunately, they only stayed long enough for the school to get a new one. As of 2009-10, (in my opnion) we have a principal who is very... into keeping discipline. i never knew she could catch up to people who ran in high heels. But the teachers are great.
Hardworking, dedicated teachers & staff.
Band program is pure dead brilliant. The other teachers are pretty much hit or miss...some of them are phenomenal, and some of them are just dreadful. Needs a makeover, the campus.
I am currently an 8th grader here, and this is the 2008-9 year i am reviewing. The teachers really vary when it comes to strenuousness. The honors programs, (especially science, and maybe english,) are extremely difficult, yet fun and enlightenting at the same time. The band program is just brilliant. Period. As for the principal, the old one, Lessa Jack, was very kind. We currently have a substitute principal, as she has passed away, so I have really no idea about next year's. To the honors kids, the tests from a certain teacher, *coughrickscoughcough* are the main concern. The parents tend to really pressure the kids, and this may attribute to how good of a school this is, yet probably not all of it. The students tend to be more respectful here, at least, toward the teachers. To each other, though, its a different story. In general, a great school.
Competitive school and average teachers, but terrible vice principal (views of student, not teacher or parent).
Although many people overlook Hopkins to be either very challenging or too self-esteemed, they are completely wrong. Hopkins revolves around a great body of teachers, who provide very challenging courses, however makes sure you learn as much as you can. The classes can meet your level, spite the fact of [non]Honors. Some teachers do prefer you learn by yourself, but they are still good teachers ! Academics-wise, Hopkins greatly prospers, having finalists in the Science Bowl, Math Counts, all over the country. Sports-wise, Hopkins is also one of the most challenging teams in the district in basketball and volleyball and golf. And, of course, the band program is absolutely amazing, under the leadership of Gregory Conway. No comment besides that. At the same time, the students love to have fun and have a good time !(socials/spiritdays) i love this school! Go Hawks!
Fantastic band program under Gregory Conway!
Thank You Hopkins for helping my son to be so successful. Great School! Great Teachers! Great Asst Principal (Jeff Waller)
