I have 2 children attending this school since kinder.. I love most ove them. I have an issue with bullies, the school is great on zero tolerance; however enforcing and taking action is a different story. I think all staff employed and volunteer should be on the same page and follow the same procedure. My child does not feel safe at times and its starting to become more and more of an issue. I think more parents should get together like one would for D.A.R.E and lets put a stop to this.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. I've been hounded due to my child being sick (with a doctor's excuse) and told to switch doctors as his current isn't 'well respected' in their school. I've almost lost a job due to the after-school director 'forgetting' that she agreed to let my child into the program and then later informing me that there was no room for him. I was then told that she's make room, but when I expressed my concerns and frustrations, I was then told immediate afterward that there was not room once again because she didn't like my attitude. I asked if there was someone else to speak to, she said no. C'mon, now. I've seen staff speed through the school zone in the a.m. when kids are going onto campus and I've even seen a teacher tell a child who fell and got hurt to 'get up right now and stop crying!' She did not attempt to aid him in anyway whatsoever. I've heard children yell obscenities on campus, only to be ignored by staff numerous times. While some of the teachers are amazing and I love the fact that the student body is so diverse but that's all the school has going for it. TL's priorities are all out of whack.
I have two children the attend Toby Lawless. This will be their 3 year there. I really love the staff, the teachers really care about what their students are learning. Anytime I have ever had a problem I could walk up to the principal and talk to her and before the end of the school day matters have been addresses and taken care of.
I have two children that attend Toby Lawless. I love being on campus, teachers and staff welcome you in the classroom. The only complaint I have is that the school cafeteria food is terrible! The food one day maybe edible and the next day it may be just gross.
I knew i wasn't the only parent that felt this way, and i agree 150%. My son had a great desire to attend school before going there, now he hates school, he comes home upset everyday and there is nothing ever done when a bully attacks, my son is the one punished, so now we do not report it. I reported these problems to fresno county and instead my son has been picked on more by the teachers.
I atttended the school when I was younger, and very little has changed and that's a good thing. There is more adversity and that is wonderful!
My son has been attending this school since k, he's going into 5th. I feel that the staff are overworked and need more funding do to the size and k-12 status. Lawless is neglected and the kids / staff suffer. Older kids should be kept more in line (too much bullying). The aces program really made a difference this year and I think it could be an awesome school and i love the diversity!
This school is way better this year then it has been. The new pricipal is very involved and walks around the campus and talks to students and parents. The school is changing for the better. I just wish they had more after school activities for the kids to do. Last year they did Mad Science, but they aren't this year for some reason.
Lawless School has a very diverse population of students. We are a staff of hard working and dedicated teachers and administrators. We strive to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students. Discipline issues are dealt with and bullying is not tolerated at our school. Our students are awesome young people and great to work with! More parent help in the classroom and district funding would really help! We also really need more computers! Sincerely, A hard-working and dedicated Lawless teacher.
Since being at Lawless, my daughter's test scores has improved tremendously compared to their previous school. They are provided with excellent teachers and the laptop program is extremely helpful.
Most of the teachers at Toby Lawless are nice. The problem is the principal. She does not seem to communicate properly to and with her staff. This school greatly lacks in the discipline department. This school does not have after school recreation this year and that is a problem for people like myself who work.
Lawless elementary seems to be low on their academic standards. I was glad my child transfered out.
Well I sent my 4 kids To Lawless It is a great school and my daughter recently just now graduated from Junior High there the sport programs are great and are extremely available the parent involvment could be better but it is still good the acedemic programs are the best I have seen
THE 6TH GRADE TEACHERS ARE AWESOME THANK YOU ALL FOR EVERYTHING (MR ZOLLER) (MRS GHAN) ANF FORMERLY (MS. CHASTAIN) AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS CARDOZA NIELSEN BALLOU EVERYONE THANK YOU FOR GETTING ME TO 8TH GRADE PROMOTION TODAY ASHLEY MASSEY PROTED JUNE 2ND 2005 ATTENDED LAWLESS FROM 6TH TO 8TH GRADE LOVED IT!!!
This school was a huge disappointment, we moved here from the mountains and were appalled at the language and how out of control the children were. The teachers were to afraid of kids to kick them out of class. Needless to say my children no longer attend this school.
I would like the opportunity to share about what we believe to be a great sixth grade program at Lawless. We dictate that students complete and turn in homework, be responsible for doing it well and completely, listen and participate, respect the rights and property of others, and work hard to be the best they can be. Yes, I guess that makes us dictators. (One who dictates; one who prescribes rules and maxims authoritatively for the direction of others. --Locke.) I find it interesting that we currently have 30 (33%) of our 90 students who have had one of more siblings go through the 6th grade with us. Thanks to those thirty families and the rest of the 6th grade families that continue to support us, thank us for the job we do, and continue to entrust their children to us. Bob Zoller - 6th grade teacher
My daughter transferred to Lawless Middle School from our academically aclaimed North Fresno district, specifically for the excellent woodshop and library programs - kudos to Mr John and Ms Dunlap. Lawless has a very diverse student body, which accurately reflects the population of Fresno but learning tolerance and being exposed to different kinds of people should be part of becoming an educated adult. There are rowdy, disruptive kids and certainly the teachers could use more resources here, as at all FUSD sites. My daughter has thrived at Lawless and developed some solid friendships with a nice group of girls. The math and science instruction (particularly Pope, Rosa & Cardoza) are excellent. She was a strong reader coming into the school, and has found the English program less than stimulating.
Lawless is one of only 3 k-8 schools in the entire district. Not enough support has been given from central office administration to help this school reach its potential. With over 860 students and only 2 administrators, give me a break! This is one of the most neglected schools in the district, and its population is one of the most troublesome in terms of parental involvement. The staff is exemplary and works very, very hard! When was the last time the Superintendent visited this school to lend support and help a dedicated staff? Or is it all just rhetoric and no action?
This is one of the worst schools I have seen. My son will not be going there next year. Kids are under-educated compared to other schools and the school has no control over the kids. Foul language and bullying is a daily occurence here, the kids have no respect!
I agree with the above comment and will add when my son attended Lawless the 3 6th grade teachers were more like wannabe dictators than teachers. There are several great teachers at Lawless - Mr Lebsock, Ms. Ballou,Ms.Bean and Ms.Potter are the best. The principal does not like to get involved and seems to be a little afraid of the 6th grade teachers especially. I pulled my son from the school mainly because of the 6th grade teachers. Since he is now homeschooled through Sierra Charter he is a straight A student.
