Two of our sons (in the 1980s), two of our nephews (in the 70s and 80s) and one of our grandsons (currently) went/go to Starr. We have always liked it because it is a good school with a very involved principal and great, involved teachers. We are both retired teachers, both with over 35 years of experience a piece (he in high school, she in middle and high school), and last year she assisted our grandson's K class and this year he assists in his 1st grade class so we have had the opportunity to see different teachers in action as well as the kids and their interaction with each other and the adults. The teachers are concerned, some even offering after-school tutoring on their own time. My grandson's 1st grade teacher, a respected veteran (who was one of our son's 1st grade teachers) love the kids and goes more than the extra mile to get kids to pass their reading tests (and I take my hat off to her). The cases of bullying which some parents cite are, when they occur, dealt with promptly and legally.

Starr is a great school, I love the principle and the teachers. My son cries when he has to miss school.

Our daughter just finished Kindergarten at Starr. This school is a wonderful school. We are very impressed with teachers and the after school care program is excellent. Our daughter loved her teacher and so did we. We look forward to our daughter attending first grade at Starr.

The school has changed since a new principal was assigned a few years ago. Discipline is not enforced. There have been several instances of bullying. With the teacher present. My daughter was present. Nothing was done. The next year, the family transferred the 2 children elsewhere. My daughter has also been bullied. The principal does not follow through with calling me, a parent, back about concerns.

I have 2 children attending STARR and we love it. I say we because STARR is not just an educational experience, but a family one also. The teachers are very experienced and love our kids as we do. After 3 years at STARR, I know it has to be one of the best in Fresno Unified. I can only speak highly of activities offered to the children, we do have happy kids at this school, there is never a dull moment! Parents as well as the children love being a STARR Knight. My children have excelled, having such experienced teachers. I can't say enough about the wonderful teachers at STARR! My only concern like other parents is the traffic, if only the city allowed us to post detour signs before and after school........

Starr is a wonderful school, where parent evolvement is huge, and the dedication from the staff is also. There are many after school activities, and the Extended Day Program in which I worked for 9 years. I transferred my son to Starr, for I knew it is the best! We have recently moved out of town, and miss the school and everyone immensely! This school is truly one of the best in Fresno! ~Rayna Charest/Jones

I love starr elementary! The teachers are wonderful. The school has a family feel to it. Everyone knows everyone and the pta is doing a great job getting things done for starr. There is an air of fun there all year long. My daughter progresses every year. She loves the kids and would not leave this school for any reason. She is a 5th grader now and next year is her last year. This spells sadness for my daughter. Starr is number one in our book. I have volunteered there for 6 years doing the bulletin for the school every friday.

I'm glad my kids go to Starr. The teachers are great and there seems to be very good parent involvment. A score in the 800 is something to be proud of. I'm certain that the schools administration is not satisfied with this score and are looking for ways to raise it.

Starr provides a learning environment with high expectations and a calmness not often found on campuses today.

This school is awesome. I have two kids go there. One is now in junior high. I have confidence in the teachers and staff and their abilities. My kids have loved going to this school and we are going to miss it terribly.
