While the previous principal had definitely done all he can do to bring the school down, the school has nevertheless stayed afloat. A new principal has gotten the school back on track, and things are looking bright for the school's future. That isn't to say the school is a poor one. On the contrary, there are many well-performing students, in academics, sports, leadership, extracurricular activites. There is, however, a clash between the well-performing students and the un-motivated students. The well-to-do's are often in the IB program, though it isn't necessary to be in that program to be considered top of the school. There are many good teachers, and many poor ones, but many of the poor can be avoided with sheer schedule manipulation.

The majority of the experienced and qualified teachers are leaving due to unfair administration. New principal next year that may help but [probably]won't for several years.

The education is top notch and the administration is helpful and easy to deal with. I was disappointed in the number of parents at back to school night but I imagine that kids don't want that as they did in primary school. There are many sports available, including swimming, though not as much effort seems to be put on those as there is in academics. The theatre department is great. Dance production is fair but at least it is open to more than at some other schools. Overall, I am happy with this school and if you are looking for a college prep education, Sunny Hills has that.

This is a very solid school that provides a very safe environment for the students to learn in sunny Buena Park/Fullerton California.

There is a very cultural and diverse environment on campus. The students and staff are very friendly. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, apart from the unusual image of students studying on their free time instead of going around and having fun. The view of the school is incredible, somehow it looks very attractive even with the construction taking place to renovate the school.

When your child walks into Sunny Hills High School, they step into a culture that 'assumes' he is going on to college. It is contagious. It is just a given. You can blame or credit the 'Asians', but the point is moot. Eventually, nearly every student wears this mantle on his shoulders. After a very full and well rounded 4 years - Not only did my child go on to UCLA, and is earning A's there, but her younger sibling and neices and nephews now Expect to go on to UCLA like she did. Sure, not everyone can reach the Ivy Leagues or the Stanfords or even the UC's - but this school raises the bar to that level for everyone. And if your child wants it bad enough, and you will back him up - the staff and the teachers and the counselors have a process in place that can and will help him get there. Now, I am waiting to see if they can do for their Arts Program what they have done with their Academics Program. I believe they can.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
