My daughters school is Valencia Park Elementary School she is a 6th Grader. She loves that school, I think as a parent she is in a great school.
My daughter is in the 2nd grade and has been going here since Kindergarten. First, I love the fact that there are no more than 20 students to a class room. The teachers here are great and they really care about the students and their education. The school participates in the Apple program where every student have the advantage to use new technology (iPods and iPads) to learn. The principal, Mrs. Flores has been amazing with the students and getting them more involved. Great school and very proud to send my daughter there.
I live in the apartments next door to this school and frequent thr park with my children. The language and attitude of the kids that attend this school is unbelieveable! I refuse to send my kids there even though it's right next door. every child deserves better. The students have aweful attitudes and seem extremely disrespectful.
I've seen many great changes this year. We have a new principal who cares about kids and that makes a big difference.
I am a parent of 3 children who go to this school. I've never liked this school but it was the closest to our home where the girls can walk to get to school. I like some teachers, but there are some teachers that seem to not like their job. The substitute principle of last year towards the end of the year was no good so I thought. I didn't know who she was because she was always in her office never outside with the kids. As a parent I am very involved and like to know what is going on with the school activities. I would like more envolvement from the principle this year she is brand new I hope she can show us new things. All my girls have had incidents with other students or with teachers that I was not happy about.
I am a former student, and now a parent. I had 2 yrs (separate) of incidents at this school with my child. As a student.. we had Mrs. Davis/White as a principle. The new principle whom I wont name, from what I've noticed and seen with my eyes, is disorganized and doesn't have her priorities straight. This school has completely gone downhill. They urge you to medicate your children or look into it. And various other complaints that I will not say. There are some wonderful teachers that are still there that do make a difference though. I transferred my child.
As a student my view of the school is slightly negative. The school varies with teachers who put effort in teaching their students, and those who teach moderately or even poorly. For example some basic ideas; the ones who are very serious about the students needs for education stay afterschool in their free time to help students with homework or other assignments, give a good view of childs work on assignments in conferences etc. And then there are those who just hand out very easy assignments and dont even take the time to challenge students. But i think the main problem is the Principal. Well not to be harsh, but i believe that Principal should come with new ideas to make the school intersting, fun, and educational. The principal should create an afterschool program that includes chess, sports, etc. It should not rely on the Boys and Girls club.
Valencia Park is an overcrowded school with too many students for the teachers and administration to effectively teach. The teaching quality is very good however due to the overcrowded nature of the school; it is difficult for the teacher s to provide extra attention to gifted children or children with special needs. Fullerton School district inadequately addresses the true needs of the diverse populations within the district. Many students (45.7%) in the district are Hispanic and have limited English skills. Thereby affected the capacity of the teacher s to effectively teach and meet gifted student needs. I have had my child in Valencia Park for 6 years and I respect and appreciate the dedication and commitment that the teachers, administration and staff have given. However, this school is very crowded and ill equipped to meet the student s needs.
