Great school, village feel of surrounding homes as the area is closer to Seal Beach and Cypress and is geographically isolated from greater Garden Grove. One caution: do not depend on counseling services to bring parents into the educational planning process. Become an informed parent about college admission competion and requirements. Make sure your students takes PSAT and college admission exams as a junior to be able to make appropriate college admission decisions. The counselors apparently wait for students to initiate registration for these tests so even kids in Advanced classes may not understand it is up to the to apply.

What a gem of a school. Very strong academically and a wide variety of extra-curricular activities make this a wonderful High School experience. Children that have graduated have returned to this area and now their kids are attending. It is that good. The school has plenty of high standard academic classes to prepare students for the rigors of college. They also have ROP classes for those who are not college bound. Use of technology is not obvious but exists in many places where it is needed. For example, the yearbook is put together entirely electronically, using industry standard software for publishing. The performing arts programs are very strong as well, offering virtually all aspects of performing arts from choral and instrumental to dramatic acting and musical theater. The various sports teams are all competitive in league play with some making regular appearances in CIF competition. Great School!

We love Pacifica! My husband and I are both products of private schools, and we found out that Pacifica is far superior than our private high schools! The staff is kind, considerate, and always willing to listen, and the students are positive and seem happy. My son, who never really cared for school loves it there! When we had an issue with grades, every single teacher called us back within 24 hours after leaving a message.

I have two children at Pacifica, 12th and 9th grade. My son was in the Marching Band and is now in the concert band. The music program at Pacifica is second to none. The academics program is incredible. The faculty and staff in which my family has interacted with have been so supportive and I truly feel that they care about the education of all of their students.

My child has attended PHS since 9th grade (now a Jr.) on a 'choice' transfer. We have been very happy w/PHS! He is active in sports and 4 activities or clubs. He has adored at least one teacher per year, and has found a 'mentor' amongst them. He is not lost in the shuffle, except perhaps in the counseling area - I think there are only 4 counselors for the student body - if we had any complaints, that would be the only one. The students, as a whole, are polite, neatly dressed, and the school is clean -- it looks like it is respected and cared for! Thanks, PHS!

Having gone to Pacifica and now being a teacher, I can say that the science department was exceptionally strong. The educators teaching there are very qualified.

Pacifica is an excellent school. There are a wide variety of classes and many resources that promote academic success. Its diverse student population enables each student to feel accepted. There is something and someone for everyone. I have found the school faculty and administrators to be very helpful and I have never had a problem. My experience in the Special Education Resource classes has been phenomonal, the decision for me to attend Pacifica was the best decision we made: I have made many steps in the right direction to excellence. I have excelled much further than in any other of my previous schools. My confidence, and my ability and willingness to socialize has gotten to a whole new level since I was enrolled. Good school,my daughter is in 10th grade and no problems thus far. Does need to be updated, eg/all classes should be on internet for parents to locate homework/classwork schedule (real time) grades and assignments. Good teachers, demographics are changing. parent involvment needs to increase. Thats a parenting issue though, not a school. though parents will blame the school, no doubt.

This is a fine high school. Both of my daughters attended and graduated from Pacifica. One now attends Orange Coast College and the other is a Soph. at U.C. San Diego. Garden Grove is an extended city geographically 'extended' causing a wide range of socio-economic neighborhoods withing the GG school districe. Pacifica is located in the most afluent and safe part of GG. This is very good public education, with a safe environment for all students.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
